Is he known outside of Germany?

[–] ndsvw@feddit.de 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] SpiderShoeCult@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What did he do? The English Wikipedia entry has nothing on why he's a douche (as I'm understanding from the comments here).

In Germany, he is known as some kind of "startup investor"..

  • He is sometimes invited in talkshows, but he is usually not qualified for the topics he is talking about. He got (and I hate this word in this context) destroyed by Harald Lesch (a very popular scientist in Germany) in a talkshow and on a different day by some economy expert and you saw that he did not know what he was talking about. When that woman presented a fact, he said that he had a different opinion about it...
  • He wanted to establish a "temporary dictatorship" in Germany
  • Pretty much all of the startups he invested in, are dead now
  • He advertises the company he invested in on social media and used fake numbers and crazy prognoses for the future to "scam" his viewership out of money
  • He created some kind of fonds ("10XDNA") and advertised it as "safe" and "not speculative". That thing went down almost -60% in ~ 1 year
  • There was an interview with German journalists ("STRG F") that had a very weird ending. Thelen said something during an interview that was problematic for himself about some contract and wanted the journalists to not show it. Later, he gave a 2nd interview and the whole thing was like "if the contract existed and if ..., then maybe, ...". It looked like he had something to hide.

He is pretty much just a "Hey, I'm a successful, rich, innovative investor" brand and gets attention and money because of that.

Whatever he is doing, just do the opposite..

[–] SpiderShoeCult@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

Oh, he's one of those. Thanks for that!

[–] Pancito@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

My first thought. Makes the meme even more accurate 😂

[–] UserDoesNotExist@sh.itjust.works 33 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But hear me out … what if you could fade out all the opinions you don’t like. Ultimate echo chamber building in reality.

Some politicians will rly like this ⊂(◉‿◉)つ Literally all politicians would love that.

[–] Korne127@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Damn. Now I remember. You are right.

I’ve been amazed at how goofy these apple goggles look juxtaposed with how excited rich nerds are to hoover up new a new apple toy and tech personalities are to talk about a new apple product.

[–] Sharkwellington@lemmy.one 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm sure the overlap between people who bought Google Glass thinking it would be the future, and people buying this thinking it will be the future, is just a circle.

Apple has a better track record of sticking things out though so who knows, maybe this one will stick.

[–] GigglyBobble@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Apple has a better track record of sticking things out

That's true and the reason why I couldn't stand staying in their ecosystem. Apple fans are just insufferable. They gobble up every shit Apple ditches out and cheer them on when they report just another record quarter paid by themselves.

I'm very skeptical of vr as a general mass market product. But if they're willing to have another semi-niche system on their line up then this probably will last a long time. There are tons of people who will always be enthusiastic for vr since it harkens to a childhood dream of theirs

[–] Kanzar@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The airpods looked ridiculous. Now they're a fashion statement. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–] SpiderShoeCult@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 year ago

They still look ridiculous though.

[–] whileloop@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Better yet, if everyone is wearing these, then everyone can see and hear everyone else as the people they approve of. You could hold a conversation with someone thinking they're a Democrat while they think you're a Republican, and both would walk away glad to have found a like-minded person.

[–] pozbo@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Blue text bubble irl

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What?

I don't understand how what you're saying relates to the Apple goggles, it sounds like you might as well have said that if everyone wears wireless earbuds, everyone can start hearing eachothers thoughts.

Did Apple announce some sort of Snapchat filter and live translate function that you're making fun of, or is the comment just absurd?

[–] whileloop@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I'm just making a joke about what some Black Mirror version of this might do in some dystopian future.

Siri, mark all of the plebs

Siri, engage death mode

[–] Peruvia@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

[–] newIdentity@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It’s an investor who thinks he’s the German Elon Musk and everyone makes fun of him. It’s pretty funny when you watch clips where he demonstrates that he has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about.

This clip is pretty funny: https://youtu.be/gLvLGE3kYBY

Fantastic short story that included this element: https://clarkesworldmagazine.com/larson_05_23/

Lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

[–] _e____b@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

test - please ignore

[–] Railison@aussie.zone 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Ok so my theory is they’re not doing full 3D stuff on it because the GPU isn’t up to standard so they’re doing the whole floating frames thing.

But after a couple of generations it’ll be able to do gaming.

[–] Rooki@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For 3.5k imagine not even be able to use it for 2 hours only

[–] MrBakedBeansOnToast@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You can, just need to plug in. Only wireless is limited.

[–] SuperSleuth@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

All-day use when plugged in is the stupidest marketing I've seen from apple.

[–] Rooki@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah thats the issue double then. Bought a 3500 wireless item and you have to plug it in 24/7. Probably they dont even deliver a 1.5m cable lmao

[–] Blinsane@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

If they're comfortable and got cheaper, I can definitely see myself ditching my cumbersome multimonitor setup I use for work and home lab to just use something like this instead. Might even trick my employer into paying for it.

[–] CasualWindVane@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

First generation anything will be trash, I won’t even consider buying until gen 3-4
