Summary

Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign has reignited fears among undocumented migrants with promises of “mass deportations” and migrant communities are bracing for uncertainty and a new wave of nativism.

His administration plans to target those deemed public safety or national security threats, potentially reinstating workplace raids and using military resources.

Advocates warn that “collateral arrests” could sweep up migrants without criminal records.

Many, like “Dreamers” protected under DACA, fear family separations, while others, such as Carlos in NYC, hope Trump’s economic policies might benefit them.

"A lot of Latinos, those who can vote, did so because they think he [Trump] can improve the economy. That would be very good for us too," said Carlos, an undocumented Mexican who lives in New York City.

"Why didn't literally everyone tell me that the racist genocidal maniac was a racist genocidal maniac?"

INCLUDING the racist, genocidal maniac?!?1?

I'm honestly terrified as a naturalized citizen that he's going to either try to revoke my citizenship or ignore it altogether :/

Birthright citizenship is on the chopping block

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (2 children)

If they're allowed to carry out their plans in full, will there even BE any path to citizenship?

How willing to work the fields are you? Not? Then you are deported!

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

I’m doing my part!

I get that TikTok, YT Shorts, and FaceBook slowly removes attention span, but how the fuck does it cause Amnesia for everything that happened before 2020?

Trump literally removed holding time limitations and changed the Criminal Only ICE focus of previous administrations so they could put women and children in cages deport children alone to random South American nations citing some ancient treaties.

This already fucking happened. All of it.

Everyone here who stayed past their visa or crossed the border illegally is a criminal to the Republicans regardless of any attempts at asylum or other legal avenues to stay. (Yes, they have done something illegal, no need to be a pedant)

Especially if they're brown.

If they're white and have some money, they'll be fine.

If they're brown and working for a Republican illegally, they'll just get paid less and worked harder while being threatened with deportation if they complain.

Narrator: "It won't be."

Stephen “nazi” Miller wants to create an army from Trump loyal national guard members and go into “blue” states to enforce deportation.

I doubt they’ll check if you’re a criminal or not.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 1 points 47 minutes ago

Or indeed if you're an immigrant.

[–] goodgame@feddit.uk 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Thinking that undocumented (inherently illegals) will be spared to continue providing cheap labour, ignores the impending AI revolution impact. Millions of jobs will be lost. The menial jobs currently being done by undocumented labour, will soon be done by legal citizens who have lost their jobs to AI. The Ministry of DOGE coin apparatus will soon be in place to implement this at national scale. The leopards are going to eat the faces of 99% of us.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

This is what I believe. Those that can’t find work or are replaced by AI get to work the fields or they are a drain on society and jailed, camped, deported, or just executed. You might get a chance to serve the military too - maybe even demanded!

“If you’re here illegally, you better be looking over your shoulder.”

They've also mentioned along the lines of "if you are here illegally, then you've already committed a crime".

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 8 points 1 hour ago

The fun part is, it's not actually a crime. That's why they use immigration judges and not criminal ones.

"If you've downloaded a car, then you've already committed a crime."

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Its only for the federal definition of criminal. That definition is extremely broad on a good day. Bad days are just gonna get broader

[–] Maiznieks@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Trump is going on a mission to skim all alleys for those that are eating pets.

I sincerely wish the absolute worst on any marginalized group that voted for Trump. You have nothing but my deepest sincere disgust and deserve whatever happens to you.

[–] punkisundead@slrpnk.net 6 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I sincerely wish the absolute worst on any marginalized group that voted for Trump.

Are white people exempt from that or why did you choose that wording?

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 9 points 3 hours ago (8 children)

I chose that wording because Trump is a massive racist and yet all these minority groups he's openly shit on still voted for him and they can get fucked.

Because yeah Mr. "Build the wall" is totally gonna have your back.
