I've been wanting to move out of my Mom's house for a while, and I originally wanted to move to Florida, but its, price, over-gentrified/fake/resort feel, overpriced mmj program, and Ron DeSantis turned me off, so I decided that I will try to move to Puerto Rico instead, hopefully by next year

anyway, what do y'all have?

Climate change.

In the mid 90's when the data was becoming more mainstream, I felt that there wasn't enough info to make a decision on it, looking back from now there was but the O&G lobby was muddying the waters as much as possible.

A few years later, ~97/98; I had read enough studies and seen enough data to accept that, yes; we were changing the climate, and yes; we need to do something about it.

It has shaped a lot of the decisions I have made in the last 25+ years.

BTW electric power tools kick arse.

Estrangement. My mother is a sociopath/BPD. What she did just last week to my aunt was absolutely insane.

She and my aunt, her sister, are very low contact because my mother is psychotically jealous of her and does all her BPD shit to her if they are more in touch. My aunt was discovered to have bowel cancer last month, which she wanted my mother not to know because she'd make it all about herself and create her emotional vampire drama over it. However my mother had gotten a whiff of the news due to a family friend running into my aunt at the surgeon's office and called up demanding to know all. My aunt disengaged and told her nothing.

My aunt went for her bowel resection last week. My mother is a retired OR nurse at that hospital, and still has friends that work in the OR. My aunt was on the stretcher waiting to be rolled down to the OR, when suddenly my mother appeared and shoved her face into hers to yell hello. My aunt, startled, replied "What are you doing here?", but before my mother could answer she was being rolled down the hall. The nurse who received her there smiled and told her she knew her sister.

So basically this nurse violated my aunt's confidentiality and my mother showed up just to let her know that she knew. She did not show up afterwards to visit or call her or send her a card. It was not to support her. She just wanted her to know that she had found out and that she wasn't getting away with not telling her.

That's the level of violent disruptive dangerous bullshit she pulls. So I will never talk to her again.

What's mmj? Medical weed? I like the cities here in Florida, but can understand, it's not the right time to move here anyway, houses are overpriced right now and rent is too.

I changed my mind on marriage, it was never my dream but my now-husband really wanted us to be married, and it did help with his status at schools and stuff regarding my kids and mine with his kids, has streamlined a lot of stuff like signing up for benefits at work, I still think it's kind of silly to license relationships, but it's been a good experience overall.

I decided not to get married too, because I just realized that I prefer living alone

But yeah, Florida is overrated anyway. It's probably going to be under a feet of water in 35 years anyway

Used to think GMOs are unhealthy until a friend set me straight. Now I can see it's just liberal flat-earth shit.

After high school I was going to go to university in the country I was born in. Applied, got accepted, got a government scholarship and all - years of work and studying to get a good profile and grades for it.

A month before graduation I ended up deciding to move to a different country with a friend instead, with the idea that we'd work there for a year and then go back home to do university. We moved a week after high school graduation, I never moved back but he did. This was 13 years ago and the best decision I ever made for sure (and he still sometimes regrets going back).

This sounds really interesting, why was it worth it to stay wherever you are?

[–] myliltoehurts@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago

I don't live there anymore - I moved again after 3 years to a different country.

It was worth it because I got out of my home country which is a crap place to live - it turned a lot worse over the past decade too.

Also because it was straight after high school, I did not have much going for me in career prospects. I ended up getting a bit lucky and meeting the right person and got a job as a 1st employee in a startup which didnt work out, but has given me so much experience that my career took off afterward and I managed to do quite well for myself.

Just comparing my life to my brother who has basically taken the path I was going to, same type of career as well. My experiences past high school just seem so much better than his was/is. And in all honesty his life has been pretty good compared to the average of other people in my home country.

I deleted my Instagram accounts, moved on with my life.

Facebook recently suspended my account because I didn't give them my phone number, I couldn't give less of a fuck. (Only used for marketplace)

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

What? They can't make you do that.

I put off joining social media for a long time, and after discussing it with friends, I changed my mind and joined a whole bunch of different websites at the beginning of this year. I've been having such a good time with it so far and I've met so many really nice people! 😃 Though I will admit it is a bit addictive LMAO

Welcome to Hell

Forgiving my dad. He was a terrible father but he's a good grandpa. We made amends and I'm glad to have him in my life.

I cheated on my final exams, I wouldn't change a thing about that.
