help trans people by teaching them about diy hrt. it's way more effective than putting pronouns in your bio. read up on how HRT works on https://transfemscience.org and learn about which sellers have been tested by a third party on https://transharmreduction.org/hrt-testing

edit for context: the frustration in this comment isn't directed at op but at LGBT people that are like "be gay do crime!" but when it comes to actually doing crimes and being LGBT they suddenly care a lot about what the law says trans people should be allowed to do. all bark no bite. though that's not relevant to my point, I mostly just want people to learn about diy hrt

This is all incredibly valid, salient, and informative. However, it should be stressed that DIY is inherently dangerous and can really go bad. Only do so if you are more than confident in your ability to do everything involved.

I started transition in the early 2000's before the terms "transition" or even "transgender" were even remotely mainstream. HRT wasn't a real thing that you could just get prescribed.

I guess what I'm saying here is that if you have the option and capability, it is worth it (and safer) to do HRT legit. Don't wind up like me with bare bones information and skill, winding up going through a weird pseudo menopause in your 20's.

I have nothing against the idea of DIY, but please stay safe and informed. Don't trust a single source of information.

You're good, and so are any resources that can help people get through this.

If you can't leave you should be looking into firearms education look up SRA, Pink Pistols, and concealed carry as often as possible. Seek out LGBTQ firearms education like farenough_42

Bricks are harder to ban by the state.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah, Reagan did it easy. Plenty of people will be totally ok with banning guns if THOSE PEOPLE start carrying and using them.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social -1 points 1 week ago

I think you're underestimating the current fetishization in gun culture but that's fair enough

[–] BallsandBayonets@lemmings.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ammo isn't, from what I hear. However arrows can be made out of any relatively straight and light material.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is why you buy NATO calibers.

5.56 is ~50 cents a round and has been for years at this point

Sure, but it's free when you get it from someone else.

Lemmy 0.19.5 has captions, no need to (ab)use the post body

[–] rxin@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not all clients nor servers are up to date yet

[–] aeharding@vger.social 5 points 1 week ago

Yeah, that’s fair.. it’s unfortunate, it’s a really important feature

[–] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Good to know some people see accessibility as abusive..

This is definitely a you problem. Deal with it, ableist.

[–] aeharding@vger.social 12 points 1 week ago

Im just trying to help. The post body doesn’t federate to mastodon, so nobody there will see it. Alt text e.g. captions does though. This is one of the main reasons image captions were added to Lemmy.

Nobody is stopping you from using both either. However is you have an accessibility concern with captions, you should definitely report is to the Lemmy devs so they know and can make the implementation better.

[–] caden@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Huh? In what world is it ableist to advocate for/promote the use of a real accessibility feature over a workaround that doesn't work on all platforms on which people might be seeing this content??

[–] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In a world where the person "advocating" a feature who isn't actually advocating for anything at all, doesn't even consider that not everyone on the fediverse uses lemmy, and that not everyone running lemmy has it up to date, but most importantly, calls an existing and perfectly valid and literally harmless accessibility solution "abuse" because they don't like it for whatever reason.

[–] aeharding@vger.social 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

literally harmless accessibility solution “abuse” because they don’t like it for whatever reason.

Well, I am calling it "abusing the post body" because it doesn't federate to all services. Captions (or as Lemmy calls them, alt text) does federate better as it was designed to use a more standard federation data type that Mastodon understands.

So, using the post body for captions actually kinda is harmful in the lens of Mastodon users, and other federated services that don't support Lemmy's post body.

[–] desktop_user@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

however many Lemmy clients don't support alt text, but do support post bodys

[–] aeharding@vger.social 5 points 1 week ago

That's true I would make feature request to those clients to add this very important functionality.

Are you the developer of Voyager, the best Lemmy application ever?

[–] aeharding@vger.social 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I am the developer of Voyager, but there are many great Lemmy clients out there! ;)

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

There are, but yours is the best! Thank you so much for everything you’ve done!

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Pretty sure Geordie and Levar from RR agree on this.

[–] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't get the reference, sorry.. 😬

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Autocorrect got me, not Lamar. Levar Burton hosted a show called Reading Rainbow and also played chief engineer Geordie La Forge in Star Trek

[–] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ah, that makes more sense, thanks! 😂

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks for alerting me to the typo. Also I’m posting all this from Voyager, which is great. Keep up the good work 👍

[–] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

I just figured it was from a show or movie I've never heard of or something, don't worry about it!
