Musk announced Saturday that every day until Election Day, he would give $1 million to a randomly selected voter who signs a petition circulated by his super PAC.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said Sunday that tech mogul Elon Musk’s plan to give money to registered voters in Pennsylvania is “deeply concerning” and “it’s something that law enforcement could take a look at.”

Shapiro’s comments on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” come one day after Musk announced in Pennsylvania that every day until Election Day, he would give $1 million to a random registered voter who signs a petition circulated by his super PAC “in favor of free speech and the right to bear arms.”

The super PAC has made signing the petition a prerequisite for attending rallies headlined by Musk, and on Saturday he surprised one rally attendee by giving away the first $1 million check onstage.

Seems like they are operating in now or never mode. Amy crime committed won't matter if trump wins. Looks like we didn't place any meaningful deterrent for things we learned in 2016 and 2020.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Let's be real, it might not matter either way.

Do you see the DoJ putting Leon in jail in the next decade, even if Harris wins?

[–] takeda@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

As long as DOJ would serve an indictment that would be a huge win.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

He is currently ignoring subpoenas from an SEC case and has faced exactly zero consequences.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 122 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Sad thing is that this needs a quick response, and that's not happening.

[–] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 72 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Funny they don't train cops to stop rich people crime that needs quick responses, just poor people crime that needs quick responses.

The people who "support law enforcement" also want to defund the IRS and other regulatory agencies.

It's why wage theft is the most rampant, unenforced crime in America.

It will take weeks to move forward, by then the election is over and certified by the House. Musk gets what he wants, justice isn't done in time, and even if it gets to the courts, the courts are bought and sold to the highest bidder on lawyers.

Laws are for poor people.

Exactly the same way he killed public transportation initiatives with his hyperloop puffery, only to never deliver anything.

Of course, still no public transportation. But hey, he sold some Teslas.

He's a garden variety con man, on a grander stage.

Isn’t this an illegal sweepstakes?

[–] bamfic@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Which is a felony? Federal crime?

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

Honestly lets class it under whatever will let me see musk fed to a pack of pissed off racoons.

Merrick Garland asleep at the wheel as usual

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Man I wish he would just... do something? Anything? Trump is running without issue despite being a criminal. Several fascists are colluding and acting if they win or lose.

And yet the Department of Justice's head is doing fucking nothing to these people! Does he want America to die?

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Between Merrick Garland and John Roberts history is going to look back as this is a period of extreme corruption. Not since the late 1800s has America had this kind of blatant and exposed corruption, which is fitting because that's the exact period of time Donald Trump in his ilk want to return America to.

Just donated an extra $500 to the Harris campaign.

I know it's a drop in the bucket compared to the $75 mil Musk is pumping into Trumps campaign but given I'm nowhere near a swing state I don't know if there's much else I can do to combat this.

Making sure all of your friends and family have a voting plan and offering transportation to polls is probably a better way to help.

[–] Lennny@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

No friends and all my family votes early by mail. Done.

[–] Hobbes@startrek.website 24 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I'll sign the petition for $1 million. Since voting is confidential I definitely won't vote for Harris anyways.

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 28 points 2 weeks ago

They're going to use that petition as proof that Kamala stole the election. So... maybe don't?

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 weeks ago

I wouldn't want my name on that garbage.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 11 points 2 weeks ago

No. These people absolutely hate it when nobody plays their games. Mocking them and not getting involved is what pushes their buttons.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 19 points 2 weeks ago

A South African paying Americans to Vote for Him for a Government Position is PROOF that DEMOCRATS are the Swamp!

[–] KonalaKoala@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Good for Josh Shapiro, because Elon Musk needs to be investigated and possibly jailed with all his money given to charity.

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe someday fascist dipshits like Musk will face punishment beyond mean words on Twitter. That won't happen but a man can dream.

[–] linearchaos@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

2 months from now: so-and-so government official says we need to investigate the people investigating Musk. He also put out a crowdsource call to find a bank that could cash a billion-dollar check.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 11 points 2 weeks ago

Not all Shapiros are created equal.

Putin paying reeellll close attention now...

[–] f4f4f4f4f4f4f4f4@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago

Putin already has what Trump wants: lists of people who voted against him.
