Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Wild, they even got Doom to run on a political news cycles. It really does run on everything huh?

[–] usernamesAreTricky@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 month ago

Even runs at a pretty good framerate people-who-take-every-outlier-poll-as-gospel

Fun fact, Doom was running back when Margaret Thatcher was in politics.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I do not like this fact, can we commit Damnatio memoriae on Margaret Thatcher.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 4 points 1 month ago

Damnatio memoriae

Yes, very much so.

[–] ZombieMantis@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

🤔 can Thatcher's grave run Doom?

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

There is only one way to find out.

I got it to run on the cube of butter in my kitchen once. Oh sure, it works, but the performance wasn't as smooth as the medium might suggest and the waffles were terrible.

Doesn't matter, go fucking vote. Vote like your life depends on it; depending on your demographic that could very well not be hyperbole. Vote like it's a terrifyingly close election, because despite all the polls and the analysts, this election is still going to come down to razor thin margins. It is VERY hard to compete with the sheer fanaticism of Trump's base; a large number of them literally think he's the Messiah or that Harris is the antichrist so they feel justified in all sorts of batshit actions.

Gosh, I really hope so. Too much is on the line.

[–] Orbituary@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Me too. At this point, I'll believe it when I see it.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

even then it’s gonna get ugly.

I'm not hopeful that she'll break the doom loop.

If a brown man created the doom loop, brown woman isn't going to stop it.

I certainly welcome her being in office for 8 years, but I fear what the other side will cook up in the meantime.

[–] mjhelto@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How did Obama, I'm assuming, create the doom loop?

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

By being brown.

Lots of people did not like that.

To people I know well enough to know they'll understsnd my meaning I say America was not ready for a black president and the current political climate and Trump is the proof of that. Its shameful really but it's not untrue. Maybe the shock to the systen has taught enough of us to be better, but maybe thats me huffing copium.
