This is a really great article about how to use BTRFS snapshots with examples.

Now I'm even more confused. Why would I want edit old versions of a file like that. The article compares the file snapshot to having a copy of that file but I wouldn't have a copy. There has to be some performance overhead from doing all this unnecessary storing and changing of files compared to normal reading and writing?
