what's stopping you from making one?
I'm over putting energy and effort into a corporate owned space.
I also would never want to try moderating my neighbors. Let them hateful on Facebook. Not my problem.

I haven't visited in a while, but it's a great community.
My city has more than one. They are really useful at times, but some folks (like me) prefer forums where time seperation is the norm (like we have here on Lemmy). So I rarely use Discord.
My community is generally on the narcissistic side, and I've tried using Discord twice and both times it was like a sewer for the mind. So I have no interest in either. It is kind of vindicating to see others in this thread don't like Discord either. Sometimes it seems like the whole frigging world is on there.
Well, they might have a lobby or chatroom provided by discord. But discord's servers are hosted in datacenters of their own choosing. With a little research, you might be able to determine if any of these are physically located within your town.
Or have they finally changed things and now distribute binaries for people to host their own discord instances with?
