I keep hearing more and more (overwhelming) positive praise regarding that client. I’ll stick with daily TestFlight Memmy though, I don’t know if I could ever use an app that calls itself ‘wef wef’

[–] TheSaneWriter@lemm.ee 30 points 1 year ago (3 children)

It's changing it's name to Voyager, if that helps. It now has registered and linked the domain vger.app and the actual renaming should happen sometime in the next few days.

[–] RubberBandMan@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait, really? Thank god! Cool name too, sounds like a callback to Apollo.

Guess I won’t have to have that awkward conversation with my friends where I try to explain that the client I’m using is not “Reddit for furries”

[–] TheSaneWriter@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I also like the new name. I use Android so I've never used Apollo, but Voyager is definitely one of my favorite ways to use Lemmy right now, I like the gesture controls and how intuitive everything feels, and it gets better every update.

[–] astropenguin5@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah same here, I used the official app (disgusting I know) because I didn't mind it that much and also am on Android, but I really like wefwef/voyager. Only complaint is I don't particularly like the apple aesthetic but I've heard there will be an option to change that soon

[–] Mythril@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have an Android phone, but also an iPad, so I used to use Sync and Apollo. The best thing about Wefwef / Voyager is that I can use the same app on both devices now!

[–] TheSaneWriter@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Indeed, cross platform apps are convenient. PWAs often get a bad rap, but I think Voyager has implemented it pretty well.

[–] dan80@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

I love the Star Trek reference

That's fair, I personally prefer Voyager but it's entirely subjective.

[–] SQL_InjectMe@partizle.com 9 points 1 year ago

Wefwef is amazing!

Thankfully they’re rebranding as Voyager https://lemmy.world/post/1181356

[–] Swuden@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What’s wrong with «wefwef»? Genuine question I guess 😂

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It sounds like a toddler talking to a puppy.

I withdraw my critique.

But why can't I have the images on the right like RIF? For now I think I like Connect better.

[–] astropenguin5@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Idk, never used RIF or Apollo myself but wefwef/voyager has the exact same ui apparently

[–] Shameless@lemmy.world 46 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm impressed with the content people are posting here so far and the experience is not all that different from browsing reddit! It really does beg the question of what is reddit offering that is worth Devs actually paying for an API?

[–] jcg@halubilo.social 42 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Basically nothing of unique value really comes from Reddit the company. Their platform is easily replicable (as you can see from the MANY Reddit clones other than Lemmy) and their staff are glorified powermods and repost bots. The only thing Reddit has of value is its communities, and those got where they are despite Reddit's best efforts.

[–] Shameless@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Yes, it really does go to show how big tech companies are making money off not just individuals but communities of people. Definitely a good reason to delete the rest of my posts and reddit account

[–] LemmyExplain@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

That’s not fair. They have uniquely shitty mobile apps and mod tools for their own forums.

[–] squaresinger@feddit.de 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Interestingly, infinity still works. I didn't update as they asked me to, and it's still fully functional.

Reddit lost me though.

[–] radioactiveradio@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Unfortunately they banned por... some explicit posts to only the reddit app and no longer can you see them on infinity.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It also looks like you have to create a login to see NSFW links and content.

Memmy has pretty similar experience as Apollo. Love it

[–] Illegal_Prime@dmv.social 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah it's pretty great, at least for such a new product. Do you know of any official memmy discussion/support community? I have some feedback for the devs (mostly accessibility stuff).

[–] mrpaw69@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I’m thinking of making my own app (iOS only, I don’t know android development).

Haven’t searched for official Memmy community.

[–] Agin@forum.basedcount.com 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I used Infiniti myself but yeah, I missed the old Reddit after the crackdown on free speech in 2018. I left months before APIpocalypse and I'll never return.

[–] Agin@forum.basedcount.com 1 points 1 year ago

Agreed. That's a better portmanteau.

[–] Selmafudd@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's day 4 and I still have nfi how to browse properly here.... Im loving being lost again

[–] whoops@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I'm just posting to see what account I'm currently using.

[–] A_Very_Big_Fan@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is there anything in particular that you find confusing?

[–] Selmafudd@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Narh nothing specific just general navigation between different instances and communities and then how to filter the content so I don't comment on a 2 year old post which was the first post in my feed which may or may not have already happened..

[–] A_Very_Big_Fan@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

You want to sort by "Active" or "Hot" to see newer posts. Or something like "Top of the Day/Week". If you want, you can change what your feed defaults to in your settings at the top. (This also applies to Lemmy apps.) You can also change the default filter type on your feed to "Subscribed" if you want it to be like Reddit, where by default it just shows you communities you're subscribed to across all instances.

As for navigation, yeah it's a hot mess rn. I feel like when someone posts a link that goes to a different Lemmy instance than the one you're currently using, there needs to be a button or something attached to it to open that link inside your current instance, instead of taking you away to one you aren't logged into. But I'm willing to bet that apps like Jerboa or Liftoff will solve this soon if Lemmy doesn't do it first.

[–] iamthatis@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

WefWef, Mlem and Memmy ftw

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Voyager*

Wefwef changed its name.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 2 points 1 year ago

Wefwef did kinda sound like a dog with a messed up face trying to bark.

[–] coolfission@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I noticed your username is the same as Christian Selig's on reddit

[–] iamthatis@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Indeed, always felt it was a cool username. Thought I'd spring on the chance and turns out it wasn't taken

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Lemmy World? That's like eBaum's World, right?"

With a little Sublime Directory sprinkled in.

Graham Norton has really roughed up a bit.
