A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

$8.3 trlllion in wealth

That is like 10 times the US yearly military budget. Where are you getting these numbers from?

[–] Forester@yiffit.net 46 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

No clue. I'm seeing closer to 300 billion sited.

[–] The_v@lemmy.world 29 points 3 months ago

Nobody knows the exact number as they hide their wealth using all sorts of shady methods. We do know they had more than 100 billion in just one investment account. They also own over 1 million acres of agricultural land, and large amounts of commercial real estate. Tracking all the business entities they own around the world is also difficult as they commonly use shell companies and other methods to hide their ownership.

Any estimate you find is just a guess.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 18 points 3 months ago

I think they messed up their decimal point. I just made a modest donation, so they should have around $83 Trillion

This is non-credible defense, I think you know where those numbers come from.

[–] Ummdustry@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Sounds like bullshit ngl number of mormons (17 million) times the average american net worth (1 million) = 17 trillion.

Does the temple literally own half the wealth of their congregation?

[–] nBodyProblem@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (2 children)

They collect a tithe of 10% of members’ income from the entire congregation. Most people accumulate less than 10% of their income as net worth annually

So yes, quite possibly they do.

[–] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Plus, they have been around fore more than 190 years. With smart investments and only 5% growth per year, your wealth doubles over 15 years. They also own land, so with land value going up they made a lot of profit if they just rent it out.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

And when those 10% get invested you get good returns... then when you have a large pool of money you can join use the TBTF cheat squads to earn a very high return with minimal risk.

[–] Unboxious@ani.social 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

And that's assuming that all 17 million mormons the LDS church claims to have actually exist. It's kind of annoying to get deleted from their rolls, so a lot of people who leave don't bother. Also, many of those 17 million live in much poorer nations than the US.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

That 17 million is a vast overestimation of their worldwide attendance. Real numbers, based off of cellphone data, are closer to 4 million.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I was counting in Hryvnias

[–] maquise@ttrpg.network 48 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Okay, so I’m not a big fan of the LDS church, but can we talk about how unironically hard that Hornet regalia goes?

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Right, just change the church specific stuff to random shit and I'm 100% sold.

[–] tacosplease@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I would have thought the jet in the picture was a Mexican Cartel jet.

It’s missing the chrome wire wheels tho

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

AI jet, hornet inspired but not hornet in actuality.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 26 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They need to save that for their spaceship

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

trusting the OPA to build you a spaceship

What did they expect?

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

It spinned though

[–] wunami@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Wouldn't biblically accurate fighter jets have 6 wings or something like that?

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

ChatGPT4o made it, and we all know that ChatGPT is not capable of being wrong.

I also asked for a biblically accurate stealth bomber and got this:

Looks like the new wish.com-lookin’ “stealth” bomber the Russians say they’re making, but almost certainly won’t actually produce

[–] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 12 points 3 months ago

No this is a King James version fighter jet.

[–] Jimbo@yiffit.net 15 points 3 months ago

I mean, it looks pretty cool tho...

Voices in OP's head, I'd wager

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 7 points 3 months ago

Good for meme

[–] figaro@lemdro.id 11 points 2 months ago

That is a completely made up number.

The corporation of the Mormon church does have absurd wealth and resources, tons of real estate, investments, etc, but estimates say it is worth between 100-300 billion in worth.

That's a lot, but definitely not trillions lol

[–] grue@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

These would cover more ground than bicycles

You shut your whore mouth; bicycles are awesome!

[–] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Its also factually incorrect, jet fighters fly in the air, they don't go on the ground

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Um, they have tires. They can obviously be driven on streets. Can't use HOV lanes though.

[–] zorro@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well there are special provisions for vehicles where all the seats are full, so they probably can

Yup, motorcycles are allowed in HOV lanes, and I assume trikes are as well. A fighter jet is just a trike with wings and a lot of weaponry.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 months ago

Or fund medics and veteran rehabilitation and move the surplus to weapons, for a guilt-free donation
