TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name
/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!
Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.
~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.
~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.
~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.
~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.
~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.
~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.
~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'
~ **8. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.
Fun will now commence.

Nice.
Now that I think about it, it’s like The Matrix but way before The Matrix.
There are other antecedents to The Matrix.
There's Dark City, for one. In the Mouth of Madness did it with horror novels. There's The Truman Show, which is a similar idea with television.
You could even argue that the TV series The Prisoner is a lot like The Matrix in the idea of a 'real world' and then a simulated world that looks like the real one that the protagonist is trapped in.
Ah, Dark City. Came out not long before The Matrix and was largely overshadowed/ignored. I hold that it's a better film overall. For it's innovation and Keanu's 2nd big break brought out by The Matrix, it's a weaker story. Plus, Dark City has Riff Raff and Jennifer Connelly. No contest.
Edit: Forgot that the Matrix actually reused some of Dark City's sets for the rooftop scenes.
The Dark City director's cut improves the film immensely just by taking out the opening narration.
That always bugged me. Must have been some yokels during test screenings that complained they didn't "get it", so some suit at the studio made Kiefer Sutherland lay out the entire plot in the beginning monologue.
I used to live in L.A.
The way they do a lot of test screenings is having people standing in shopping malls (usually ones with movie theaters) offering free tickets to any takers.
Stupidest possible way to test your movie with an audience. Get the bored people with nothing better to do than accept a free ticket to a random movie.
That's how I saw The Rock's "Gridiron Gang", meandering a mall. It was a bloated mess and I hear the finished product, while trimmed, still wasn't worth it.
There is also "The futurological congress" by Stanislaw Lem
The Thirteenth Floor.
I remember watching a thing where they auctioned off a lot of Star Trek props, and the little flute prop from this episode went for a ton of money. Apparently reacting to this, Patrick Stewart laughed and said "It doesn't play! It's not a real flute!"
I love this sub. Unfortunately I'm not enough of a fan, so some of the memes here go right over my head. Like this one. No idea what I'm looking at
It's not a simple one to explain without the build up of character. Best to just watch most of TNG. This is from late season 5.
Will do, shouldn't take longer than an hour or two, right?
Ok that one's funny
Picard's alternate life on that doomed world inspires some deja vu bumping up against current events.
