I'm on vacation!

I took 2 weeks off from my high pressure corporate job and my laptop isnt with me. This week I'm spending time with my family out in the woods, and next week I fly home to a lovely staycation. I haven't had more than a long weekend since Christmas so this is nice.

[–] thal3s@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago

Have a great staycation!

[–] wirelesswire@kbin.run 3 points 4 months ago

Me too! I'm not going anywhere over the next 2 weeks, but it will be nice to have the time off.

After a year and a half unemployed, my husband has finally gotten a job he's excited about. Total career change. I'm home alone with the baby for the first time, but I'm really glad he's found something!

[–] Knossos@lemmy.world 15 points 4 months ago

My son gets to leave the hospital.

[–] Monster96@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I'm going to be running into enough money to fully upgrade my system. I'm looking forward to 32 gb ddr5, an i7-14700, and a 4080! I'm so excited!

Why an nvidia card? Amd is generally better value.

(Unless you do work with cuda or whatever, in that case nevermind)

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

If you're on Windows then the AAA games typically work better with Nvidia drivers and cards. If you're on Linux then plasma has some issues with Nvidia, and AMD is probably a better choice.

[–] Monster96@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I've used an Nvidia card since I started my build some 12 years ago and it's never done me wrong. I'm also a windows user and I do in fact do work using cuda so it's just what I'm used to

[–] Oha@lemmy.ohaa.xyz 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You probably shouldnt get intel processors right now..

[–] Monster96@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

In retrospect I think you're right. Thankfully it's still working but I'm dreading the day

[–] toomanypancakes@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

It'll be my third week of doing Spravato treatments (esketamine nasal spray), so I'm hoping my mood. I've actually been doing pretty all right since I started and I hope that's not depression just waxing and waning. If I can keep feeling better and stay like that things should be pretty great!

Other than that once the heat gets a bit more tolerable on Wednesday I'm gonna work on playing my drums regularly again.

[–] tiredofsametab@kbin.run 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Next Monday, the 15th, is Marine Day and a public holiday here in Japan, so that's nice.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What does the day honor or celebrate?

[–] tiredofsametab@kbin.run 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)
[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Ah, that's probably a pretty big holiday there then. Eh? I'd love to experience that.

[–] Lennnny@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

Just got back off vacation to an absolutely heaving vegetable garden, thanks to my automated rain barrel watering system. So pumped that it actually worked! Gonna go harvest a bunch of tomatoes and cucumbers today. Also my mint wine is ready to go into secondary fermentation so I'm looking forward to that!

[–] subignition@fedia.io 5 points 4 months ago

A doctor visit I'm looking forward to (really would like some answers) and a new air conditioner arriving

Nothing. Next week my sister gets into town, and she's the definition of what a Karen is. I used to think some of her behaviors were depression based, or mental illness, but she proved over this past year that she just gets off on creating drama, and watching others suffer because of her drama.

A good example is, we went out to dinner a year ago. She picked the resteraunt, because nobody else cared where we eat. When she realized she wasn't going to get any blowback from that, she decided to order the fish. She at no point asked what type of fish. She never asked when it was caught, or how it was served. She did nothing of the sort.

So she gets her fish, and then complains that it was a previously frozen fish, and cooked from a frozen state. It was December. We live in Cleveland, which other than a Lake, is right on the border of Canada. In DECEMBER.

My sister then begins berating the server who brought her the fish, saying she's not doing her job, and she should be embarassed to serve frozen fish. To be clear, the fish wasn't served to her frozen. It had just been frozen at one point prior to serving it to her. BECAUSE IT'S FUCKING DECEMBER, AND NOBODY CATCHES FISH IN LAKE ERIE IN DECEMBER!!! They catch the fish in the spring, and summer, maybe even the fall. Before the lake freezes. They freeze the excess, and serve it if you order it. That's just how life works.

She's yelling and screaming, demanding the server take it back, and prepare her something worthy instead.

Meanwhile, our entire family is just heads in their hands embarassed by her behavior.

After being told that she can have them prepare something else instead, but she'll still be charged for the fish, she became enraged, threw a $100 bill on the table and said "I'M NOT TAKING THIS!!!" and left. The rest of us had just gotten our meals. She expected us to storm out with her. We did not. We sat there, watched her get into her car, and watched her drive off. Then we appologized for her behavior.

When she came into my apartment, I had spent weeks deep cleaning it just so I wouldn't have to hear her run her mouth. She found a few specks of dirt on the counter, and drippings on a drip tray inside my convection oven. She has not, to this day, shut the fuck up about it. She even sent my other sister to drop things off with me, and told my other sister "Take pictures of inside his apartment! I want to see if he's cleaning it". My sister told me what she was told to do, and said "I'm not doing that. If she wants to come see it, she can come up here herself."

That was 3 weeks ago, and so now she IS flying up to see for herself. Tomorrow I'm scheduling a colonoscopy for the day she's in town. Just to have an excuse to tell her I'm busy.

I dunno, I might argue that this kind of behavior qualifies as a mental illness. At minimum it's the next closest thing, a behavioral disorder.

Sorry to hear about that insanity. Hope things will be back to peaceful for you soon.

Literally the hour she flies back to Florida.

[–] subignition@fedia.io 1 points 4 months ago

Oh, Florida? Say no more... 😔

Sounds like my sister

More physical therapy. The therapist is nice, although the activities leave me tired afterwards. Which, given it's physical therapy, they probably should?

[–] CrackaAssCracka@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago

Yeah, a good physical therapist will push you past your limits. From personal and professional experience, mental limitations will hold you back when you're rehabbing. With my less uptight patients I'll tell them physical therapists don't give a shit about your pain and discomfort, they're there to get you better. I love those fuckers, they do wonders.

I'm trying to draw faster and get more comfortable with drawing faster, so hopefully that means more new artwork!!

[–] hperrin@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I’m getting back to work on my company, Port87. I’m working on some database improvements that will let me onboard a lot more users than I currently can, and hopefully even make my current waitlist system automated.

After that, I’ll be working on getting custom domain support done (it’s an email service), so that users with their own domains can use it.

Hopefully my patent will be issued soon too. It got approved, I’m just waiting for it to be issued now.

I'm taking Friday off to take my wife to a book fair and then to a specialty restaurant that makes the kind of food she enjoyed as an overseas english teacher.

[–] Kimdracula@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Hopefully getting my RG35XXSP.. It cleared US customs today, shouldn't be too much longer to wait.

Looking forward to enjoying some retro gaming nostalgia

I had a coffee date today, and hoping to plan a second date soon, since my date already made a suggestion for it.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Doctor visits. :( 2 for me, 1 for my wife, 1 for our 3 month old kitten.
