Perhaps "Humble, but spirited folk"?

Times like this are when I'm thankful for the deeper appreciation of Star Trek that lemmy has given me.

I swear like 70% of Lemmy users are trans trekkies. I know I am.

Bog drinkers and heavy dwellers?

Well, I try not to showcase others' "proclivities" or fat shame, but call 'em like ya see 'em.

Oh you're from Donegal, are ye?

I take it Donegal is known for swamp dwellers and heavy drinkers?

Thanks to the ice age that obliterated all our mountains (fucking Norwegians got the mountains and the oil), Finland's geology is very… hole-y – absolutely ridiculous amounts of lakes, ponds etc., and of course bogs, swamps, fens and whatnot (especially up north in Lapland). We're also a nation of functional alcoholics, so much so that we're now weirdly famous for the concept of "pantsdrunk" or kalsarikännit, ie. getting drunk by yourself in your underwear. And it's not like we came up with that during COVID, mind you – that's just Tuesday.

Could you translate that to middle-aged, please?

Sure, "That's most definitely what the fuck is up, youtube"

This in fact did nothing to alleviate my confusion and raised more questions than it answered, and I'm totally fine with that; confusion is pretty much my default setting nowadays.
