Rules for Posting Guides on Our Community

1. Defining a Guide Guides are comprehensive reference materials, how-tos, or comparison tables. A guide must be well-organized both in content and layout. Information should be easily accessible without unnecessary navigation. Guides can include flowcharts, step-by-step instructions, or visual references that compare different elements side by side.

2. Infographic Guidelines Infographics are permitted if they are educational and informative. They should aim to convey complex information visually and clearly. However, infographics that primarily serve as visual essays without structured guidance will be subject to removal.

3. Grey Area Moderators may use discretion when deciding to remove posts. If in doubt, message us or use downvotes for content you find inappropriate.

4. Source Attribution If you know the original source of a guide, share it in the comments to credit the creators.

5. Diverse Content To keep our community engaging, avoid saturating the feed with similar topics. Excessive posts on a single topic may be moderated to maintain diversity.

6. Verify in Comments Always check the comments for additional insights or corrections. Moderators rely on community expertise for accuracy.

The map is 11 years old, some of the locations have moved or closed.

It's a true shame he's not here to document some of that change.

I know he'd have hated to see the way that covid decimated the industry in a lot of ways, but there's a story of what was lost that he'd have done some justice to.

I honestly think he would not have survived COVID. His greatest joy in life suffered greatly; in a way I am glad he was spared the despaire that COVID's effects on the restaurant industry would have brought him. He left us devoid of his perspective when things were great, and saved us sharing his sorrow in how things went.

He would have given a poignant and wonderful perspective on the situation(as he always had), but I feel he would have given his life to share it had he not stepped out when he had.

Yeah I've thought about that a lot too and agree. Him caged up for months would not be a healthy thing for him. Still fuckin miss him so much though.

I don't know. His death is wrapped in a whole lot of personal/domestic stuff as well.

I don't doubt he'd have hated the way covid affected the industry, but in NYC it kinda just accelerated the death cycle that most restaurants circle. He'd already watched his city Disneyfied.

Check out 'Kitchen Confidential' in audiobook format, if you haven't. I often listen to it to fall asleep, I find it very comforting. He also recorded 'Medium Raw', but it's not as natural; it's like someone was coaching him to be more engaging or something.
