For me it's Wolf children. I watch it when I'm not feeling the best physically or mentally. What's your comfort watch?

Oh man, this is my jam right here:

  • Scrubs
  • That '70s Show
  • Futurama
  • Simpsons (Early seasons of course)
  • Bob's Burgers recently was added to the list
  • Everybody Loves Raymond
    • Sometimes you just want a stupid go-nowhere show you can tune out
  • King of the Hill
  • Malcolm in the Middle
  • Trailer Park Boys
    • Sometimes you have to just sit back and wish you were with the boys smokin' dope
  • How I Met Your Mother
    • was a comfort show, but ever since S9 I can't bring myself to rewatch

Haha that seems to be a very common thread with How I Met Your Mother fans. I cannot stand the ending it just makes me so mad. I have the dvd release though so it has the alternate ending

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 2 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Honest to god had no idea there was an alternate ending... how is it?

[–] tvblb@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Bobs Burgers, The Great North, Arrested Development….huh do I just like various types of weird families?

[–] gingerrich@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Star Trek TNG and DS9. Brings back a lot of fond feelings and is my TV hug.

[–] hardypart@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

TNG is my go to show when I'm sick. So soothing!

[–] BiggestBulb@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Closest thing for me is probably Clannad

[–] Slated@vlemmy.net 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep. Frasier and Seinfeld. Two greats but very different shows

[–] Slated@vlemmy.net 2 points 1 year ago

Oh! and How I Met Your Mother. I love that show. I don't ever watch s9 though. It made me so made when it aired

[–] Dadifer@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Always Firefly

[–] Jim-B396@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

MASH and Star Trek

[–] Kalissy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Movies: the entire LoTR trilogy, followed by The Hobbit trilogy because at that point I'm committed to the theme and I manage to still find it entertaining

Shows: the Office

[–] Chetzemoka@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

When I can't deal with the world, I watch the Extended Release LOTR in 40 minute chunks per day like a TV show

New Girl Parks and Rec

They're just both so upbeat and light. Although during lockdowns seeing happy people having close relationships with friends just made me more sad! Still, it was probably good to have those feelings bubble up so I couldn't keep ignoring them.

[–] syme@possumpat.io 2 points 1 year ago

Bob's Burgers, Star Trek TNG and DS9, MST3K, The Great North. Studio Ghibli stuff. King of the Hill. Probably more.

[–] Saint_of_Illusion@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Shows: Arrested Development, Home Improvement, Seinfeld

Movies: Mrs. Doubtfire, Wayne's World, Clueless

Stargate sg1 anytime

[–] ElephantKant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

When I'm feeling sick, nothing makes me feel better than watching Arthur. Yes the Aardvark.

[–] realitista@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I know this will sound strange, but Battlebots got me through some dark moments during the pandemic. Something about watching robots rip each other to shreds really takes me away from my problems.

That sounds decidedly not strange. Battlebots is awesome.

[–] BedSharkPal@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I know everyone likes to shit on it, but Friends.

[–] Withers_Larue@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Ted Lasso
Parks and Rec
Brooklyn 99
New Girl

[–] Asenath@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Red Green. Supernatural. SG1. And forgive me, but for those particularly shitty days, Beavis and Butthead.

[–] bayjird@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

How does red green hold up? I swear I haven't thought about that show in 20 years

[–] Alter_Id@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

AmΓ©lie, for sure.

Even with an element of loneliness/isolation being central to its plot, the storytelling, visual presentation, and performances make this an interminably uplifting movie for me that soothes even on the worst of days.

[–] vikingduck03@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Definitely the same. I don't even like all the parts or characters of the film, but the whole makes the sum of its parts shine bright.

[–] wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Amelie is the definition of charming. I love the soundtrack

So many people saying TNG haha. Is that show really that universally appealing or are y'all just my age?

[–] rightreverendhungadunga@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's not really many - if any (I can't think of any off hand) - shows like it. It's got a bit of adventure and/or intrigue, but also drama, decent acting (most of the time), and most importantly a hopeful, non-violent message. Not even the newer ST shows (or the horrible JJ Abrams movies) can make that final boast. It's definitely in my top three go-to shows.

For a generation that has nothing but existential threats and anxiety, TNG is a great show to watch. It's nice seeing something on TV that's actually hopeful for humanity.

[–] Thaliff@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Elementary - modern take on Sherlock Holmes with Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu as Holmes and Watson.

[–] Tigbitties@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Avatar: Last Air Bender

[–] phantomslave@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Robinhood: Men in Tights! Any time I'm sick with a cold or flu I go and get some food and chill out in front of the TV to watch it. No matter how bad I'm feeling it always makes me laugh.

[–] wildeaboutoskar@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

Gilmore Girls or Taskmaster in terms of TV shows, but Buffy, Stargate SG-1 and QI are in the mix as well.

Filmwise I would say Clueless.

[–] Kyo_Jazz@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Oh i have a really good one, and if you have watched it, definetly tell me because i cant find any discussion about it online. Its called Wood Job, It takes place in a fictional remote forested village and its woodworking industry. its a wholesome story really wholesome and rewatch it yearly.
