can anyone explain to me why Argentinians voted for such a cunt government?

[–] nevemsenki@lemmy.world 14 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Desperation more or less, from what I understand. The old system was terrible and they figured it can't be much worse if they don't opt to continue it.

Never underestimate humanity's belief that it can't get worse

It can always get worse. Always.

[–] nevemsenki@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

An individual may understand that. Masses won't.

Same reason why millions of Americans vote for the orange.

Greed and insecurity.

Everyone wants to be wealthy, but can't understand that it's impossible.

Simply put, to cut down government spending. There is a sounder consensus that government spending was out of control, and it was reflected in the elections. Milei is doing nothing else than what he promised during campaign, maybe even falling short because congress is (rightfully) slowing him down.

Okay got it, the last government was bad and now they elected an even worse one with a guy in charge that looked so happy on his photo with the other cunt Trump, that he might needed a new pair of pants after that.

Why do you get so angry? I gave you a honest to earth answer, respectfully.

[–] avater@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

wasn't aimed at you, just my honest review of the current situation in argentina

[–] Syntha@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I suggest you actually look up the history of Argentina if you're earnest about understanding it's current situation. This is not the result of one bad government, it's the result of decades of institutional failure.

[–] Lautaro@lemmy.world -1 points 6 months ago

No, it's the result of this government measures.

[–] Lautaro@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

He promised to cut taxes. He's raising taxes now, even creating new taxes and restoring old taxes, too. How is that "what he promised"?

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

To paraphrase an Argentinian I spoke with on another thread: the poor people were already suffering so they voted for the current president so the rich would have to struggle too. The poor were gonna get it in the neck anyway so they may as well take the rich down with them.

[–] Lautaro@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Too bad the rich are laughing now, and the poor are suffering even worse.

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 months ago

Yeah. There’s an English saying “biting your nose off to spite your own face” which seems appropriate. To me the biggest problem is that the world is flooded with politicians and sadly lacking statesmen (statespeople?)

Basically a cess of nepotism in a country that cannot pay its bills. Well done.

[–] Lautaro@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

How is a news agency "nepotism"? Do you understand what that word means? Look for it, and remember, on the first day of mileis government, he changed a law to put his sister in the office too.
