Yeah after 25 years of zero dentist visits I have my first toothache this week. I'll never financially recover from this.

A cocaine addition is possibly cheaper πŸ˜…πŸ˜’

[–] Spiralvortexisalie@lemmy.world 17 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

The spot price for gold at the moment today 2024/3/4 is about $66 USD a gram. If anybody reading this is doing or has been doing drugs, remember if you are paying around 65 a gram (Average Cocaine and Heroin pricing) you are essentially throwing gold in the trash with every hit. I ask that those who think current drug policy is effective think of this fact, drugs are literally worth their weight in gold despite being illegal.

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Are you suggesting investing in drugs?

[–] Fudoshin@feddit.uk 6 points 8 months ago

Ive just this second opened the worlds first meth bank! Freely and securely deposit all your meth in me.

[–] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 14 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Damn, I went 10 without going. Had to suddenly go because a molar started crumbling. 3 years, 4 crowns and 2 new fillings later, Im doing a bit better now...

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 months ago

Oof, yeah... A cleaning and exam is $100-300 in the US. A root canal is $600-1600. Crowns are $1100-1700.

It's worth it to hit up the dentist at least every few years... Ideally 1-2 times a year.

Insurance is bullshit, though. It's a racket that's evolved only to favor the insurance companies. My dentist literally told me this.

Get insurance if you know you've got bad teeth, or a problem, though!

Dude this is literally me. As soon as I finished med school and started residency I got LASIK. A year after that I got Invisalign. And resident physicians don't make a lot montey but it was enough to change my looks.

[–] IamAnonymous@lemmy.world 33 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Can’t wait to know what you are going to do with your money when you are an Attending physician! Lol.

I kinda wanna get invisalign. Im still kinda leery of LASIK, but it sounds interesting.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago

I'm definitely getting lasik maybe after I finish school and get my first high paying job

[–] toxicbubble@lemmy.world 37 points 8 months ago (1 children)

check out moneybags here with dental insurance

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 39 points 8 months ago (1 children)

They'd be paying out of pocket with lottery winnings, I think you missed the point

[–] scytale@lemm.ee 22 points 8 months ago

With how dental insurance is done in the US, it’s almost the same regardless if you have insurance or not.

[–] Atin@lemmy.world 28 points 8 months ago

I'm not even American and they are the first things I would do if I won the lottery.

[–] AllonzeeLV@lemmy.world 26 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (4 children)

If I won the lottery, no one currently in my life would ever see or hear from me again.

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

If I won the lottery, I’d try not to really change much about my lifestyle. I’d work the same job, drive the same car. I’d pay my house off, but otherwise treat the lottery money as retirement and/or an emergency fund and earn some extra money off the interest (interest alone off a few million sitting in a money market account might be decent). Otherwise, I’d try to act like nothing happened, just live a relatively comfortable life, but still work, albeit with less stress.

[–] Shadywack@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

There are rare instances where people don't hate and despise their job and bosses. Rare, but in your case, it does happen. For the vast majority of us we'd afford nutritious food, get in to see a medical professional, and afford a home...while loud-quitting and telling the boss to fuck himself.

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Hell no, my family would have an awesome xmas

[–] orphiebaby@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 3 points 8 months ago

Well yeah. What else are you supposed to keep in the basement?

[–] Got_Bent@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

I haven't won the lottery, and no one in my life sees or hears from me already.

So you'd do things that are free in half of Europe + shopping?

[–] Schorsch@feddit.de 9 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Therapy is free in my (European) country... if you can find a vacancy or pay it yourself. So it isn't.

[–] synapse1278@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Dentist are still pretty expensive where I live (West Europe), if you need anything more than basic care, you will pay €€€ and insurance won't pay much.

Medical care is single-payer in Canada, and we pay one-half the amount in our taxes with zero co-pays and deductibles on top of that for pretty much identical to slightly superior medical outcomes.

But yeah, the other three track up here as well.
