I don't see how any phone user would actually do anything other then top left

[–] Barzaria@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

Okay here me out. Imagine its like 101F outside (this temperature is hot to humans, really hot). If you were to put your phone in your sweaty pocket screen-to-thigh you will get condensation on the screen (due to being pressed against the leg, no ventilation style). The condensation might fog up your screen protector if you have other than the adhesive glass type. Additionally, any pocket lint in your pocket will get stuck to a sweaty thigh phone, making the screen gross and hard to see/use. The above principle applies for shirt pockets.

Top left. Also, pro tip: if you're a dork like me who sticks their hands in their pockets and accidentally unlocks their phone with the fingerprint scanner, remove your non-dominant hand's fingerprints and always put your phone in that same hand's pocket. E.g. if you are right handed, remove your left hand fingerprints and always put your phone in your left pocket. That way you need to remove the phone from the pocket and transfer it to your other hand before you can unlock it.

[–] WhatASave@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I'm sorry it is literally impossible to put my phone in any other pocket.

[–] Kuro@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Top left like a normal person

[–] Mallard@beehaw.org 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Top left. I've just mimed out Top Right and it hurts my brain and wrist.

[–] JStorks@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I think the only way top right would work for me is if I was holding the phone with two hands, and then pocketed with thr hand that slid on top?

[–] abraham_linksys@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

If you do anything other than top left then I'm guessing the only reason you carry a smartphone is for the taste.

Seriously who the fuck does anything other than that? It would actually require more effort as you have to reposition the phone in your hand and THEN put it in your pocket instead of just putting it in your fucking pocket.

God damn reprobates

back pocket gang sound off:

[–] Thalyssa@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

As a woman. The few pants that I own that can fit a phone I do top left.

[–] MadWorks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Top left for sure. I'm always worried I'll bump into something and break my screen.

[–] Avalanched@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don’t care as long as my screen isn’t touching my keys I’m good

[–] Ravor@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

You don't put your phone in the same pocket ae the key.

This is the rule no 0

[–] Deralax@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Back right pocket. Screen towards me.

[–] nephs@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Bottom right, front left pocket. Wallet goes in the back right pocket. Keys go in the front right pocket.

[–] IoI_xD@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Used to do bottom left when my phone had a bad touch screen and would interact with my thigh. Ever since getting a pixel, top left.

[–] clb92@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'm bottom right, because my thigh accidentally called emergency services three times one day (three calls, one right after another, and I only noticed the third one). Turns out my slightly sweaty thigh activated the screen (tap to wake) and tapped the "Emergency" button on the OnePlus lock screen. So now I turn the screen outward in my pocket out of fear of that happening again.

[–] burgersc12@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I was a top left for a long time, recent bottom right convert over here

[–] Tenacious_Tea@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

This is turning into a goldmine for pickpocketer awareness haha.

[–] I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Top left, plus Gravity Screen so it can't wake up and do silly things.

[–] garrettw87@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

This is the most correct answer, because it results in the phone being in the correct orientation in your hand when you take it out. fite me.

[–] StickBugged@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Gravity screen seems to be too old for my version of Android :(

[–] I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That's annoying. I can't immediately find a replacement. Maybe Google has done something that prevents further development.

I'll attempt to contact the author for more info and will reply here if I can find this post again :)

No idea, it's random every time.

[–] aiwentari@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Women on this thread: cries in no pockets

[–] Callie@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

top left. it's easier to grab the phone and see what time or notification is without readjusting it

[–] haeilsey@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

top left, but top right if I'm listening to music (I have a pixel with the headphone jack on the top)

[–] bunkbed@feddit.uk 3 points 1 year ago

Bottom right, pixel has fingerprint sensor on the back and its very easy to accidentaly unlock when putting in my pocket, so thigh taps are dangerous.

[–] root_beer@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Top left, except in my left pocket

[–] tauonite@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And I thought no one does anything but bottom left! Bottom left all the way, top left is weird. Y'all are nuts.

[–] Stez827@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You sir are insane are you not scared of bumping into a corner of a table and cracking your screen

[–] HoloPengin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Never had a screen crack on me from that, but I smack enough corners with my legs that I probably should be wary.

This has convinced me to change

[–] tauonite@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Nope! I use one of those things called... hang on, this is a hard word to remember... 'case'...? Not sure if it's spelled like that. It's a magical thing that protects your phone and makes it not break. Jokes aside, I don't understand how a screen would break from hitting a table corner even without a case. The impact will be softened by your body and it shouldn't be enough pressure on the screen to crack it, right?

[–] HoloPengin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Bottom right.

My headphones jack is on the bottom, fingerprint sensor on the back. Also it seems less likely to scratch the screen if it's just against the outside of my pants instead of pressing into my thigh

[–] sable@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Top left in the back pocket

While wearing jeans: Bottom, there are stupid little metal things that stick out and will scratch the screen otherwise

Otherwise: Top, it's more convenient.

With my current model of phone, bottom left/top right specifically. There's a camera bar on it that makes it easier to pull out that way.

[–] thatdukeluke@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

The top left, helps me when I put my earbuds in the same pocket so I don't worry about scratching my screen.

[–] HighJudge@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Top Right is how I use it, but I dont think its the "right way".

The screen has to be in, or else the case cant protect it if something impacts it (had a phone screen break on me once because it was facing out and I ran into a countertop). Top Left does make more sense, but somehow I got into a habit of twirling my phone so its top right.

So maybe top left is the "correct" answer to protect your phone from breakage, but I still have a habit of top right.

[–] atocci@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I usually do top left instead of top right just because I tend to touch my camera lenses if I hold my phone from the top side like that and I don't want to smudge them up.

[–] tenochtitlan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I'm guessing y'all hate the oleophobic coating on your screens cause the top two will rub off the coating faster. I do bottom right and even after 4 years on the same phone my fingers still glide on the glass.

[–] Stez827@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I would rather mess up the coating than run into something and shatter my screen also I just use a screen protector that I replace every once in a while so it doesn't really matter

[–] tenochtitlan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

As long as your skin is softer than Luke Cage you won't have a problem with bumping into stuff. I've handled 50 lb metal equipment by leaning it on my right thigh (where my phone is) and it hasn't chipped or cracked.

If I have to put my phone in my pants pocket, its bottom right. But that a rare occurrence.
