History time!

Donald Trump's legal mentor was Roy Cohn. Cohn had been Joe McCarthy's hatchet man during the Red Scare, and went on to become one of the most feared litigators in New York. Cohn was the one who taught Trump that it's cheaper to rip off middle class contractors and then sue them than it is to just pay them what's owed. When Trump learned that Cohn was dying of AIDS he cut his old friend off completely

When Trump learned that Cohn was dying of AIDS he cut his old friend off completely

The one and only thing I like about Trump is his ability to draw evil assholes into his orbit, somehow convince them that he would never betray them, and then betray them in a humiliating and painful way

Rudy Giuliani has entered the chat.

Rudy once publicly humiliated an EMS Lieutenant who was trying to send a child to the hospital. Rudy played it off in the media and acted like he was a hero, when in fact he'd risked the boy's life by forcing the ambulance to divert from the nearest hospital.

Seeing Rudy humiliated is always a pleasure, especially because so many of his wounds are self inflicted.

Oh yeah, Giuliani is such a massive piece of shit he was leading fascist riots to overthrow democratically elected governments before he met Trump, every bad thing that happens to him is great news for the country

If only it could be done without being such a giant asshole that you generate an asshole-attracting gravitational field.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 5 points 8 months ago

It could, but not by Trump of course.

He got AIDS and his good friend Ronald Reagan did not want anything to do with him. He was the original Log Cabin Republican and he died penniless and alone. The IRS seized all of his assets but that was actually a personal goal of his which seems about right for a Republican: rave rabidly about fiscal responsibility...for everyone but them.

To the feckless chud who downvoted this comment, I’m curious on what grounds? Also, eat my ass.

The joke here is not Trump

The joke is the American legal system where if you have enough money, time and a lack of morals, you can milk the system for years and decades.

I'm not expecting anything new from these headlines anymore, Trump isn't the problem .... the American legal, political and wealthy corporate class that enable him are the problem.

[–] distantsounds@lemmy.world 14 points 8 months ago

100%. Trump is result of the corporate American system. Enabled by economic growth by any and all costs. Now that debit is being collected

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

This one might actually hurt him because the core of it is about how he lied to banks.

Trump isn't the problem .... the American legal, political and wealthy corporate class that enable him are the problem.

I agree, Trump is just a symptom of a deeper rot, but this symptom could kill the patient before we can cure the disease

This patient has been on life support since he arrived

He was doing fraud and cons for decades prior

[–] tal@lemmy.today 41 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Engoron has already found that Trump and his executives engaged in fraud.

As the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy put it:

The President is very much a figurehead - he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it.

An orange sash is what the President of the Galaxy traditionally wears.

On those criteria Zaphod Beeblebrox is one of the most successful Presidents the Galaxy has ever had. He spent two of his ten Presidential years in prison for fraud. Very very few people realize that the President and the Government have virtually no power at all, and of these very few people only six know whence ultimate political power is wielded.

While it's nice to make fun of Donnie, let's not forget that real people have died because Trump encouraged his supporters to go out and kill. The President has the power to rile up the worst people, or encourage the best to be better.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 11 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Trump is intensely boring in person though, listening to him talk is one of the most boring things I have ever experienced. Zaophod was at least entertaining.

[–] gloss@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 8 months ago

He'll just whine to his cult and they'll donate enough to cover it. But I hope he gets hit with the maximum penalties nonetheless.

[–] Jode@midwest.social 10 points 8 months ago

We all know Henry Winkler will be playing Engeron in the film adaptation of this nonsense.
