Old School Runescape forces you to change your character into a girl to complete a quest. You can easily change back afterwards, but I never did for some reason.
196
Be sure to follow the rule before you head out.
Rule: You must post before you leave.
they actually changed that back in 2022. previously, you had to fight a knight blessed by the gods so that no man could harm him, so you would have to change your character to a woman in order to harm him. however they changed it so now no blade can harm him, and the player is given four different weapons, where one of them is a warhammer, allowing him to be defeated (since it doesn't have a blade)
Why?? The old version is amazing!
It implies being transgender is a choice though
In a world of magic i don’t really see how it does.
I am a cis male who likes his pronouns but i recognize myself much more fluid then most. Theres a type of frilly dress and shoes I really like that i think would look really good if i grew out my beard.
My point is if i could take such a potion to chose biological gender features i probably by in bulk to spend the odd day relaxing at a wellness looking pretty while doing it.
I never encountered this quest but i could see it act as a subtle nudge for people to discover that there identity isnt so black and white as our sex makes it seem.
I fully agree with this sentiment as a trans person. I could very much see this quest ‘cracking someone’s egg’ (i.e. realising they’re trans).

I have a friend that’s a cis man who has a gorgeous beard and likes to be fluid with his presentation as well. He loves wearing cute dresses and mary jane’s, and always has rlly pretty nails.
You should absolutely rock that look. I’m really here for people wearing whatever makes them the most happy, the concept of gendering clothes is just dumb.
If you want certain features, you do have options to get them. You can take estrogen and not do hair removal for example.
I am not comfortable with permanent and longer lasting changes, especially if they can effect my fertility.
The dream is to look the way i feel life for a particular day but keep my current form. Of which i am quite happy for 95% of the time.
Daang, I didn't know they changed it. It makes sense that they would, but I'm still a little sad about it.
that's actually a pretty cool, it gives me a weird game idea/mechanic - you turn into the opposite gender of what you picked for a quest, or until the end of the game, and your character also faces the extreme downsides that would have (gender dysphoria), and it could heavily effect your performance because of the mental strain
I mean, it sounds like having a quest where your character's leg was chopped off. Like yes, it's legit that this would make your life worse but I don't think that's the kind of challenge that people are looking for in a video game 😅
Somehow, somewhere along the process, redstone is part of the transition.
its a the beginnings of becoming a transfem programmer 🤭
Is it the redpill from the matrix?
And then there is darksouls 2 with the good old gender change coffin :3
ayo what? elaborate????
you go in the coffin next to shrek in by the sea and boom genderswapped. in elden ring spoilers you just look in the mirror to do it in the bedroom of the lady gathering hugs for a dragon.
The nature of your being has changed...
They have this in DS3 also, but it only changes the animations not your model. Can't remember if DS2's was the exact same or if it changed your model... Been a while since I played.
Yeah, in 2 your whole model changes. It's neat!
Starfield: Sorry, but you have to change your gender to fix your weapons.
It's not a bug, it's a feature!
Weirdly, I had a save corruption caused by selling a ship I stole. After new Atlantis broke, whenever I would go through a load screen my char customization would randomize. Sometimes I'd be a woman, sometimes a man. It was a wild time.
Truly genderfluid
and you can't even change your language mid-game in pokemon ffs
"Why do you need to change your language? Did you forget how to speak it midway through the game, you clown?" - The Pokemon Company, probably
I heard of this case where a person suffered a head injury and was unable to speak English because of it, they were only able to speak a foreign language (I don't remember what it was specifically). So yeah you can forget it midway through the game, or anywhere else. Nintendo just likes to lock people into choices, I think it might be a Japanese thing (it's why you ~~can't~~ aren't allowed to change your name in any of their games).
metroid: you were female all along
I accidently changed my skin to a female character (Java edition). Too lazy to change it back
accidentally or """"" accidentally """""?
egg_irl
same uwu
No one can tell when you wear full Unobtainium armor anyways. ATM9 modpack (All the Mods 9)
Cart dumper and hex editor and you can change your character's gender in Pokemon games, will cause glitches tho so if you want to try it you're on your own.
Why does this matter?
I like to change my appearance mid game
Sure, it's a cool feature to have. Just like why does it matter.
I would also like to mention it is a Nintendo thing, not a pokemon thing.
What other Nintendo games do you add gender to your character? I've never played animal crossing but every Nintendo game I've played other than Pokemon has a known protagonist. The screenshot you used is another pokemon game.
why does inclusivity matter?
Inclusitvity is being able to play as either gender. Being able to switch mid-game is just a niche convenience thing. Personally I haven't ever felt the need to switch during a playthrough, if the game is good, I wouldn't mind starting a new one, but obviously there's nothing wrong with having the option.
Tfw face when you're in 196 taking a pokeminecraft meme seriously
It doesn't. People just enjoy nitpicking it seems.
Then there's Dark Souls 2 where very early in the game there's a coffin that gives you the option to enter. Do so, and you come out the opposite sex you were when you went in.
Okay but in fairness pokemans has been checking your pronouns at the beginning of the game since the 90s. Surely there has to be an enby romhack somewhere.
Stardew Valley: Change your gender at will. Choose from any and all appearance and clothing options regardless of what gender you've selected. Date and marry absolutely any eligible bachelor(ette)s regardless of gender (or better yet, date everyone and make Krobus your roommate). Oh, and everyone in the game treats you with respect and is just totally cool about all of it.

Technically it would be "model": "slim"
