Every day? How often are you changing clothes?

[–] Nemo@midwest.social 22 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Some of us are parents. Laundry never stops.

[–] Twentytwodividedby7@lemmy.world 30 points 8 months ago (2 children)

As a parent, we still do laundry once per week. Usually 2-3 loads. OP is insane for doing daily laundry...it's a huge waist of water

[–] tryptaminev@feddit.de 9 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

And electricity. And detergent.

[–] Nemo@midwest.social 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

There are five people in my house. Each generates one full load of laundry every week or so. That's two sets of PJs, four pairs of pants, seven tops, seven pairs each of underwear and socks, and a bath towel.

Add in bed linens, kitchen towels, and throw rugs, and 6-7 loads a week is not excessive. I don't do laundry every day; I prefer to do a few loads at a time twice a week. But with a high-efficiency washer it's not even that much water, and they are all full loads so it's not "wasted" anyway.

Y'all aren't poor enough.

That needs to be 1-2 pairs of pants a week. 1 towel a week. 5 shirts a week. 14 socks, 3 underwear. You never do beds until you see clear oil stains.

Toddlers? Unless they're clearly dirty, they're clean lol.

[–] Kolrami@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I can't tell if this comment is serious or not because there's a mix of stuff in it, but I've gotta ask: only 3 underwear??

[–] blanketswithsmallpox@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

1 every other day and 1 that takes 3 days because you forgot and haven't showered in 4.

[–] Classy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

For me I change my jeans maybe once every 4 to 7 days lol

[–] blanketswithsmallpox@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Jeans are actually only supposed to be washed that often. They did say pants though, which could be very different. Especially if they're wearing jeggings riding up their ass so hard that it's doing half their wiping.

[–] Nemo@midwest.social 2 points 8 months ago

I've been there, I get it, but yeah, I'm not that broke anymore. My kids need clean uniforms for school and I need a clean uniform for work.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Beds once a week. Towels use at least two in a week per person.

[–] ABCDE@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

If it's just you، no worries, but if you have two or three kids it's not unreasonable.

[–] drahardja@lemmy.world 25 points 8 months ago

I don’t do laundry every day, but I have a basket that’s about the same size as one load. Whenever the basket is full, it goes into the washer. Tends to be once every about 5 days for me.

[–] Mango@lemmy.world 17 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Weekly. What is OP smoking?

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Reliably doing a weekly task without any sort of threat?

What kind of executive function nonsense is that???

[–] Mango@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The threat is coworkers say I smell and I get fired.

[–] psud@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

You can always just have enough clothes for whatever period.

[–] Venator@lemmy.nz 12 points 8 months ago

But one big load is more efficient with time 😂

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 10 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (2 children)

I do one machine each Sunday. No idea what you fill your daily machines with, unless you have literally one (1) pair of everything and must clean it daily.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

I don't know, man, I'll try anything once, but that sounds uncomfortable.

[–] psud@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Cleaning daily you want at least three sets of clothes

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago (3 children)

If you only own one set of clothes, you don't need to decide.

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The HBO show Deadwood frequently depicted the 1870s old West characters stripping to their underwear, tossing their clothes on a chair, t then waking up the next day and putting them back on.

The whole time I'm thinking man, our society has this all wrong

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 18 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (3 children)

Do… do you not do this? I’m not talking underwear and socks, but my jeans or pullovers aren’t dirty after wearing them once. I throw them over a chair and wear them the next day or day after.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I don't re-wear shirts because they take a beating. But yes, pants go on the pants hook for reuse.

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I totally rewear over wear! But I have to space it out lest I feel judged. But I mean they were same exact outfit every single day. Seemed nice

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Lest I feel judged

One time back when we were still in the office, just as a silly thing to do, I wore the same outfit for a whole week (I washed it daily). I wanted to see if anyone noticed. They did not. (or if they did, they didn't say anything). I'm a dude which probably plays a part. Nobody gives a fuck what we wear, and all our professional attire looks more or less the same. I don't think a woman could pull it off. Women are way too judgey of other women.

[–] ABCDE@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Shorts and trousers sometimes, jumpers and hoodies I rewear a fair few times. Underwear, socks and t-shirts never.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 months ago

Only thing I don't wear two days in a row is anything that touches my balls

[–] Thorny_Insight@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

At one point I realized that I almost never wear over half of my clothes so I got rid of them. Now I have like 20 similar colored t-shirts, 3 similar colored pants, 40 pairs of underwear, a pile of black socks etc. After doing laundry I put the clean clothes at the bottom of the pile and when I need a fresh shirt I take the one that's on top. Same applies for all my other clothes aswell. I basically wear the same outfit every single day.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

My wife thought I was crazy for doing this exact thing! I think she's crazy for making clothing decisions every morning. Who needs that much extra work?

[–] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 3 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I actually had a terrible roommate like this once.

He had one work outfit, and he washed/dried it every day. One button up shirt, one pair of khakis, and one pair of dress socks. No underwear, because he didn't wear any. Dude was just too lazy to buy more outfits I guess.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The cost of electricity & water & laundry detergent would quickly exceed the cost of buying multiple work clothes.

[–] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 2 points 8 months ago

As his roommate, it was infuriating. He sucked in a lot of ways.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 2 points 8 months ago

That's not even laziness, that genuinely takes more effort and costs more than just buying more clothes

[–] Treefox@lemmy.ml 8 points 8 months ago

I just do mine once a week. Very easy and not a huge load of laundry.

[–] key@lemmy.keychat.org 6 points 8 months ago

Could always just become a nudist. Then you only need to wash towels.

[–] time_fo_that@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Once a hamper fills up, I do the laundry. Not super complicated lol

[–] thanks_shakey_snake@lemmy.ca 5 points 8 months ago

I think what most of these replies are missing is that for ADHDers, it's possible to do something either every day, or totally sporadically and often too late... The "just pick a day every week" solution is a) obvious, and b) impossible.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 5 points 8 months ago

I have to pay to use a washer and dryer so I'm doing everything all at once just to save money.

[–] AnalogyAddict@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

You have enough clothes to wear a whole month without doing laundry? Gee. My entire wardrobe is maybe 4 loads, counting all seasons, and I think I have too many clothes.

[–] elephantium@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Tiny washing machine? 4 loads sounds like a month's worth of clothes to me.

[–] AnalogyAddict@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

*Counting all seasons.

And most people overload their washer.

[–] Thcdenton@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I just snipe it when the dryer is empty.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] Thcdenton@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

I mean the dryer always has someone elses clothes in it, so as soon as i see its empty i all my laundry.

My excuse is I get half priced electric on Sundays.
