Lately I’ve found myself working in a company that produces puppets and mascots. By profession I am a 3d cad modeler but after the pandemic I had to relocate and now am doing this fun job. It is a very repetitive job for me as I am working cnc machinery most of the time but the company makes very fun products. I am planning to open up my pizzeria soon, though. The money I am making isn’t nearly enough and for all the hours I am working might as well run my own business.

I love pizza so I hope that it works really well! Wish you luck

I work as a Gay Bath House attendant! I just fell into it, but I kinda enjoy it, sometimes it's gross (I have to clean), but mostly fascinating. As far as "neat little details", I have a lot of those, but without knowing my audience it is probably best to keep those to myself!

I got fired from my long time job a while back and it was traumatizing. So, for now, I am not ready to go back to real work. I don't have kids and I am well into middle age, so the work ambition really isn't a thing for me, I'm fine surviving.

What is a gay bathhouse attendant and what do you do there? Is it like a private one room bathhouse where people go in to do their things or more like a turkish bath? I was thinking of opening a place like that, one server and a private house with a big jacuzzi of some sort, I am curious about the business model

A gay bathhouse attendant is fancy for: I clean up after people in a bath house. Gay bath houses vary, from very fancy and high end, to kinda scummy and dirty (although they're both 'dirty'). Usually there are public areas with Sauna, Hot tub, showers and lockers, and various "play" areas, I guess? Clients can also pay extra and get a private room in 6 hour intervals.

I have a bit over one year left to complete my PhD. My topic is spectroscopy, mostly time-resolved. So I spend a lot of time aligning lasers, preparing and measuring samples, and fitting data. Sometimes I get to go to synchrotrons to perform measurements using short X-ray pulses.

My original plan was to study the evolutionary biology of salamanders, but while studying biochemistry I discovered that what I found most interesting usually involved light-driven processes (photoreceptors, photosynthesis, pigments, pH color changes, optogenetics, etc.), and I wanted to understand them in more detail. So I decided to go into a PhD to understand molecular photophysics better.

I am happy and I do enjoy it. But I am not sure about what I will do next... This work is fun, but it is dark in the lab, and I would like to do more work in the field. My dream would be to be able to mix field work and spectroscopy. If anyone has some opportunities doing some spectroscopic studies in a tropical rain-forest please let me know! 😸

Why dont you look through the lemmy-ui issues for something that you could implement? You can ask in the dev chat on matrix, or directly on github if anything is unclear.
