Do you want to discuss movies together, or actually watch them live at the same time?

That could be an idea for !moviesandtv@lemm.ee

Watch them live at the same time.

Gmod used to have this in the old days. I don't know if it's still a thing. It was only YouTube though.

Not an answer but your question reminded me of Netflix back in 2008-09 or so had an awesome feature on the Xbox where you could do just this. Your avatar guys would sit at the bottom of the screen like you were in a movie theater and you could chat while you all watched the same movie. It certainly was more novel than anything else but seems like it would scratch the exact itch you're looking for.

There are a lot of rooms in VR Chat that let you do this, and you can actually meet and interact with people this way pretty readily. The libraries on there are extremely impressive, must be pulling from a torrent repository like a Stremio extension or something. Anyhow, I recommend giving it a try if you don't mind the VR headset resolution. You can of course also run this on a Desktop, which for this purpose has some advantages.

If you are talking about a service/app to match you with people to watch a movie together with in person, you could try MeetUp, or one of the dating apps. Nothing ideal that I know of, honestly would make a decent app idea

As far as how you can watch videos remotely between multiple people, there are some websites where you can stream videos through a virtual browser. You can visit a website in them and have the content of the website be shared between multiple people. Usually they also have a way to comment, or talk to the participants. Some of the better examples include:

  1. https://watch.hyperbeam.com/

  2. https://caracal.club/

I'm not up to date on any communities to find people to watch videos with in real-time , maybe someone else can chime in on that front.

I love how you can just randomly a join a watchparty at caracal even without an account. Thanks for the recommendation.

There is actually an app for this on the Quest. I forgot what it was called tho (I no longer have one). It was pretty cool though. Like being in a virtual theatre with other people. Too bad you couldn't throw virtual popcorn at the screen.

Probably was Big Screen. And you can indeed throw popcorn, now.
