If you haven't played this before do it, you won't regret it. Amazing game all around. Such a shame the sequel got killed...

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say it's amazing. But it's totally worth this price.

The pacing is all over, and if you hate radio buddies be prepared for a bad time. The story was also really lame. But if you can get through the halfway point, the game really opens up and gets a lot better. Your skill development follows a fun and challenging curve, and fighting hoards of zombies becomes a lot of fun. It just takes so long to get to that part of the game.

Agreed, I was pretty annoyed with parts of the main story.

::: Spoiler warning

Imo boozer should have died, that would have made finding Sarah more emotional. His miraculous recovery always felt bullshit.

Also Sarah’s character was ridiculous. I get that it’d been 2 years, but she didn’t care at all that deacon was alive. Their “keep it secret” thing was fine but like even in private she didn’t give a fuck, which was weird to me. And her whole “I can save them” arc was really weird.

I remember thinking that there must have been a lot of cut content, because the end of the story progresses really fast compared to the rest, I had expected more build up.

And finally, it would have been nice if at the end boozer and Sarah weren’t just boringly “sitting” at lost lake. like, they are badasses after that story but at the end they’re just content with sitting around while deacon goes off. The end game could have been vastly better than it was.

Read all of Sarah's lab notes that are scattered around as collectibles. They really help give insight into her thought process as soon as she saw Deacon again and flesh out the reasoning why her reception seemed as icy as it seemed.

Had no idea Sony were releasing their PC ports on GOG now too, albeit later than Steam. Good to see they recognise an appetite for alternative/non-store binding releases.

Horizon and Days Gone were already DRM-free on Epic, so the GOG release is more of a marketing opportunity.

This is my favorite game of all time. At least 15 playthroughs lol

Thanks for the heads up, been wanting to try this for a while.

It's such a great game. Give it time though, the first act can feel a bit slow. It's meant to be savored, not rushed. Have fun!

Under rated game. Great story and cinematic feel.

That's pretty tempting honestly. Been watching TLOU 1 (late yes) and it put me in the mood for some zombie survival...

I had lots of fun with the game. Story is meh but gameplay was excellent, the balance of satisfying exploration and excellent combat kept me engaged to the end. Wish there was more to do with the settlements and some crazier hordes at the end (the game ends up being a bit too easy by the end but then again, I did most of the side content too), but it was still great.

My dream game would be Project Zomboid depth with Days Gone presentation and gameplay 😁

Bro those hordes were crazy fun/scary to take out. Also, solid story for a AAA game

[–] doublejay1999@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I just found it too slow and tapped out early . Does it get better ???

The first game since l4d2 to get hordes right. Damn good game, and good story to boot.

[–] Rose@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Have you not played WWZ? Nothing beats those hordes.

This game is fun, but after about 15 hours you realize you've actually seen and explored all the gameplay elements - they're just repeated for another 30 hours.

So it's a good buy if you would enjoy a classic zombie apocalypse scenario, with a loooooot of biker dudes being all about bikes and cranking that hog. If you need a deep story, do not buy, because the gameplay can't carry it along alone.

You can find it a little cheaper at a few places right now.
