Had a bit too much last night and now I'm on my usual routine of water, ibuprofen, and waiting. Was curious if anyone has a better go to?

I get hungover way less since I drink a lot of water after or ideally at the same time as getting drunk.

If I get hungover anyway it's greasy food, weed, sweet drinks like soda or juice schorle and couch with a series or a silly movie. Probably a cat or two with me on the couch. Let's be honest, probably only the one, the other only really loves my SO. Normal stuff I guess.

Or if it's summer festival time maybe countering with beer might be another option to kill a hangover.

[–] max641@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

^This.

I do take a lot of water after getting drunk ( if am not lost :D ). It's simple. A sip of water when the mouth feels dry , repeat.

Also, coconut in the next morning.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Vodka soda or vodka water are the drinks to drink to avoid the hangover.

Assuming it's not seriously illegal where you live, substitute alcohol for cannabis, have a great night and wake up rested and refreshed the next morning.

Seems to be less damaging to the body long term too, but that's neither here nor there.

[–] manapropos@lemmy.basedcount.com 9 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Best of both worlds: get drunk as hell and smoke up in the morning to get over the hangover

[–] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 5 points 11 months ago

Don't forget to grab some pho for the morning after. This is the holy trifecta.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I like to get drunk as hell and then smoke up the same night. It used to give me a bad case of the spins in my 20s but these days it's fine. Plus the weed keeps me from drinking too much to the point of hangover, cause the moment it kicks in I lose all desire to drink.

[–] manapropos@lemmy.basedcount.com 4 points 11 months ago

I like doing it when I’m just by myself. If I’m at a party and get crossfaded I just turn into a mute

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Weed seems to act like a sleeping pill for me. It's not exactly "fun". It just feels like I took something like presumably Ambien or something. I don't get any positive effects from it like alcohol.

It's not that I'm doing too much either. If I take very miniscule amounts, I feel nothing. If I take slightly more, I feel incredibly sleepy and hungry with no positive effects. I've tried to ride out the sleepiness before to see if I get something good out of it, but it just makes me feel sick like I'm coming down with something.

I have tried to take more than that to see if I was taking too little, but it made me uncomfortably dissociate and gave me extreme nausea.

This is only in reference to weed edibles for the record. Less than 2.5 mg and I feel nothing. 2.5-5 mg and I feel overwhelming sleepy and mildly sick. 6-10 mg seems to be too much for me. I have limited access to materials to smoke it due to legality in my area. I also am not keen on damaging my lungs either.

I keep going back to it now and then hoping I'll get something out of it, but it just unfortunately doesn't seem to do anything for me. I wish I could use it to replace alcohol because alcohol gives me intense GI upset with even small amounts. But I simply don't get any positive effects from weed at all whatsoever. The sleeping pill part is sort of useful on the rare occasion I have trouble sleeping. But usually my problem is the opposite...I can't stay awake on a regular basis without any drugs. So purposefully taking something to knock me out isn't great.

Don't forget to drink water the night before , you will feel better the next day. Its dehydration that hit us the most so being hydrated while and after drinking helps a lot.

[–] potterpockets@sh.itjust.works 6 points 11 months ago

Try to keep a 1:1 ratio of it if you can.

[–] HootinNHollerin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago

Drinking water that night is worth way more than playing catch up in the morning. I’ve always heard and also tried b vitamins at night too

[–] QuesoDorado@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Electrolytes, not from a sugary sports drink, but something like Liquid IV. If I hit the sauce a little too hard I usually drink one at the end of the night as well, along with a good amount of water.

[–] 9715698@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Non-alcoholic beer is a great source of electrolytes. It's my favourite hangover drink.

A 2011 study in rats claims caffeine and NSAIDs

Once the source of the hangover headache was located, the researchers then set about figuring out how to get rid of the pesky things, using known headache blockers. Turns out the combination of caffeine and over-the-counter inflammatory drugs (i.e., NSAIDs – things like aspirin and ibuprofen) were best at blocking the head-pounding effects of the acetate.

[–] WintLizard@sopuli.xyz 4 points 11 months ago (3 children)

So my tea and ibuprofen breakfast was the right idea!

[–] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 5 points 11 months ago

I try to avoid ibuprofen or Tylenol as they're hard on the liver and kidneys which are already working overtime to flush the alcohol out of your system.

Yup. Midol apparently.

Thiamine, aka B1 vitamin. So your liver uses all your B1 tryna process all the alcohol, then there's none for your brain = headaches, foggy thinking etc. I have some before bed, and upon waking, and some food. Long term deprivation of B1 -causes permanent brain damage. Also there's the dehydration thing too.

[–] waz@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

My brain always tries to convince me to eat greasy heavy food, but that never seems to help much. For some reason an apple always makes me feel much better. After that it's just headache drugs and time.

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Hangover days are biscuits and gravy. The heavy salt and grease make up for a lot of it.

If that fails, I would go to Tylenol and electrolyte drinks.

Greasy food bro!

This poor guy’s trying to ride out a hangover on water and ibuprofen!

You need some hash browns, sausage, and coffee.

[–] boneheed@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The magical pig is king.

Bacon and or sausage, the greasier the better.

[–] TryingToEscapeTarkov@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Make Bacon and then just drink the fat from the pan. Alpha AF.

Cannabis and coconut water is the ultimate cure for hangovers.

And a bowl of either Menudo or Pho helps too if you can stomach food.

Take a dump, eat something, have a coffee, take another dump. Hangover gone.

Add water in between steps.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

My wife swears by coca cola and pickle juice, but I just grab a Gatorade.

[–] BURN@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Suffer

Mostly just caffeine, water and extra sleep. I do my best to only drink to a hangover on weekends and since I’m single I don’t really have any responsibilities.

[–] DirigibleProtein@aussie.zone 4 points 11 months ago

Ibuprofen, vitamin b, lots of water, sleep it off.

Or two slices of Vegemite on toast washed down with a Guinness

[–] subspaceinterferents@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sometimes people ask if I want a drink. I say no, I don't drink, thanks. If they say why, I say "I've had enough."

[–] quinkin@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

I max leveled drinking years ago.

[–] Woht24@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Gatorade and something greasy always fixes me up pretty quickly

[–] GeekFTW@kbin.social 4 points 11 months ago
[–] PatFussy@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

Live. Laugh. Love.

And then chug water until my tummy hurts

[–] HootinNHollerin@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago

Coconut water, pedialyte, ramen soup ( real thick fatty kind), omega 3s like avocado and salmon, Bloody Mary, coffee, water. Xanax if you cant hold anything down

[–] manapropos@lemmy.basedcount.com 4 points 11 months ago

Water, black coffee, and breakfast tacos with the spiciest habanero sauce I have in the pantry

[–] Cuzscience@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

A nice bowl of menudo is the magic cure down here. It coats your stomach and helps you rehydrate. It’s especially therapeutic if you’ve grow up with the stuff and have mentally accepted it is a cure.

I clean the house as a form of punishment. Then some kind of brunch with eggs, strong coffee, and NO mimosas.

Antihistamines will stop the headache, can I also suggest a breakfast carbonara? (Do NOT use cream like some sort of maniac, fry bacon (or pancetta) and onion (and maybe mushrooms) in oil, grate some parmesan (or pecorino), boil the pasta for 10 minutes, lightly whisk a couple of eggs when the pasta is almost done, drain the pasta, mix the whisked egg, fried delights and cheese through the pasta, season, devour.)

[–] Lodespawn@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Also before you fry the bacon, onion and maybe mushroom you should chop them up ..

I avoid the hangover all together by drinking smart.

Drink a water between each beer/drink. All it takes, Never had a hangover, regardless of how excessively I imbibed (it also really helps to keep the bill cheaper)

I was visiting our public swimming pool, and as I was already there: sauna. But cautiously. Got rid of a really bad hangover with a sauna and swimming in a few hours last spring. Works like magic. Plus of course large amounts of water and fruits.
