I wonder what a true stereotypical Canadian pizza would have? Poutine? Maple syrup? Pickled cheese?

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

NGL Poutine sounds like a good fit for pizza

Use a potato dough for the flour, gravey for sause, and the right cheese

Friend we've got a lunch planned

They are not good.

Maybe if places actually used potato dough it would better.

I’ve seen either pizza dough, gravy, cheese curds + optional meat(bacon or donair usually) or what’s essentially a poutine dumped onto pizza dough, so fries, curds and gravy.

I’ve seen people eat them. That’s the best review I can give.

Isn't the whole thing about poutine that it looks like kinda off-putting slop of random stuff but tastes amazing?

We do have pizza with spaghetti on it. You've got the Québecois to thank for that one. And yes, before you ask, it's called pizzaghetti.

This is a bit of a rumor as the truth isn't known for sure, but supposedly sushi as we know it today also started in Canada. Rolled raw fish was a thing for a while, but putting rice on the outside may have started in Canada.

From Wikipedia: "Although the true origin is disputed, it's widely believed that Chef Hidekazu invented the California roll (originally called "Tojo-maki") in Vancouver, by inverting the roll and putting rice on the outside to make it more accessible to Western tastes, and adding non-traditional ingredients like avocado."

Putting rice on the outside started in China long before the modern day, they used to just toss it though as it was the disgusting fishy garbage that was there to absorb fish juice while it sat

Here's an article on the history of sushi:

I did some research for a video on "Toast Hawaii" and apparently people just liked pineapple and ham in the 50's and 60's. Traveling far was quite expensive back then, so they could cure their "Fernweh" at home with a can of pineapples. I personally like it occasionally and think people should just be able to enjoy it without being looked down on.

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

people who can't just enjoy Hawaii pizza just have a shit palate.

It's sweet and salty what the fuck is wrong you not liking that, unless you hate pineapples itself

[–] DarienGS@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The ham and pineapple work fine; the problem is pineapple and cheese.

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

that's still salty and sweet.

Probably should have called it Pyrrhus's Revenge.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wow I can't believe they got away with blaming the Hawaiians for that abomination

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 year ago
