Hey everyone 👋

Bean for Lemmy is now available on the App Store for everyone to download!

The app is free to use with a "Pro" plan that gives you access to some premium features like push notifications and multiple accounts, as well as a bunch of customisation options with more themes and app icons available.

Thank you to everyone who tested the app over the last month. I'm really happy with what I've made in a short period of time but… This is just the beginning and I have so much more planned including mod tools, kbin supported more!

I hope you'll check it out and I look forward to hearing your feedback ❤️

Is this a Swift app?

[–] fleece@pawb.social 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Any plans to add a safari extension like Apollo used to have and Ivory currently has? I’m all for buying in on good software, but that’s one of the requirements for me to buy in.

It looks great!

[–] steve228uk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A share extension? That should already be there, you might just need to turn it on.

[–] fleece@pawb.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you used Apollo or Ivory you might remember they both have a Safari extension where they take links to instances and open them in the relevant app. Apollo would just open reddit links but Ivory takes a link to any Mastodon instance and opens it in the app. It would be awesome to have the same happen with lemmy instances. I think Memmy is planning on something like that

[–] steve228uk@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Oh, gotcha! Yeah, Ivory has “Open in Ivory”. Not a difficult thing to add, just was t something I thought about!

I’ll add it to the list of things to do 😊

Before I buy Pro, is there a timeline as to when image posts will mark as read correctly when the image is opened from the thumbnail? (Links seem to mark as read correctly when clicking the thumbnail)

Thanks!

can Bean work with kbin accounts? I know the two are federated, just wondering since that’s my home instance 😛

[–] dameoutlaw@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There is also the Artemis app for Kbin. I use Artemis for Kbin and Bean for Lemmy. They’re both incredible apps.

[–] zewm@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 year ago

Are you on Artemis.camp? Because I’m trying to log in with my Kbin.social account and it doesn’t let me

When will android get a release?

This link is not loading for me.

[–] timi@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I don’t know why that is, I was having trouble too. It’s just a link to Steve’s comment that says iPad before Android.

[–] TwinTusks@outpost.zeuslink.net 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This actually looks really polished

[–] steve228uk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Thank you 😊

How long will the lifetime discounted option be available for? I will go for that once I hit payday at the end of the week.

[–] steve228uk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It’ll be for at least a week! I really appreciate the support 😊

[–] acetuk@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

Don’t take it off until I can afford to pay for it! 😀

[–] acetuk@feddit.uk 1 points 1 year ago

Pro lifetime purchase. This is the only Lemmy app I use making this well worth it for me.

[–] net00@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I got a lifetime sub! https://postimg.cc/SndY1G6M/f8b6b53f

It definitely wasn't cheap (considering the several open source free lemmy apps), but seeing how fast this app has evolved + your commitment shows that this is gonna be a serious app (and not a side experiment that is suddenly canned).

This is also exactly why I chose lemm.ee as my instance, I'm looking for serious and stable platforms. Commitment quickly runs out for free apps, as I've seen many times before. Anyways congrats on the appstore release!

Thanks so much, I really appreciate the support! ❤️

[–] EighthLayer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Awesome! Purchased the lifetime pro license!

Thanks for making a great looking Lemmy App! I also got the lifetime Pro subscription.

[–] dameoutlaw@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Can we have https://www.deepl.com/translator-mobile Added to the translator options?

[–] timespace@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Please reconsider the lifetime price 🙏. I want to support your efforts but I don’t do subscriptions and $30/$50 is too high a price for an unproven system (lemmy) and developer, and an app that still has some large bugs/issues. This sentiment has been said by others in other communities when discussing Bean as well, so I don’t think I’m off base.

I said this elsewhere, but at $10 I have a feeling you’d get a lot more sales due to the price being in the impulse buy range, and low enough you’ll get FOMOers that are willing to throw down $10 to see what happens.

$30 for the early bird price means you can never go lower than $30 for future sales (Black Friday or what have you). I think that is a mistake, personally, and you may disagree.

What are the lacking “essential “ functions?

[–] timespace@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Here’s a few off the top of my head. I’ll start keeping a list as I use the app more.

  • No in-line gif or video support
  • Cannot tap to collapse a post
  • Can’t edit comments from your profile screen
  • Can’t tap a comment in your profile to go to that comment in the thread
  • No gesture to swipe from right to left to return to the previous post (ie you’re viewing the All lost, open a post/thread, read comments, swipe left to right to go back to All list, scroll down a bit, then decide to return to the previous thread - in Apollo, you could wipe right to left to return to the last thread)
  • No hide read posts button (you have to do it through a menu)
  • Not enough compact comment option(s) - ie it would be nice to have the upvote/downvote count shown at the top of the comment to the right of the username
  • No default sorting order by list type (ie all, local, subscribed lists)
  • Collapsing a comment thread from the middle of thread does not automatically bring you to the next top level comment
  • Not essential, but doesn’t support animated community logos
[–] a887dcd7a@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hi, it does not appear on „bean“ or „lemmy“ search terms. Can someone provide a direct link?

[–] a887dcd7a@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It was hidden at the bottom of the list. Anyway.
