I think it's more that people don't want micro celebrities like Reddit had even though it's kinda unavoidable
Memes
Post memes here.
A meme is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads by means of imitation from person to person within a culture and often carries symbolic meaning representing a particular phenomenon or theme.
An Internet meme or meme, is a cultural item that is spread via the Internet, often through social media platforms. The name is by the concept of memes proposed by Richard Dawkins in 1972. Internet memes can take various forms, such as images, videos, GIFs, and various other viral sensations.
- Wait at least 2 months before reposting
- No explicitly political content (about political figures, political events, elections and so on), !politicalmemes@lemmy.ca can be better place for that
- Use NSFW marking accordingly
Laittakaa meemejä tänne.
- Odota ainakin 2 kuukautta ennen meemin postaamista uudelleen
- Ei selkeän poliittista sisältöä (poliitikoista, poliittisista tapahtumista, vaaleista jne) parempi paikka esim. !politicalmemes@lemmy.ca
- Merkitse K18-sisältö tarpeen mukaan
That may be so, but it's no excuse for treating them horribly.
Please don't worry, once my favorites folders run dry my posting in this mag will be much rarer. I just want to share the 'best of' I've seen over the years to give the place a little life while people find the communities they want to be active in.
I wasn't trying to say anything about you personally 😭 I just play devil's advocate haters gonna hate regardless
I feel like Reddit had two kinds of celebrities, though:
People like dipshit-the-turtle who made themselves famous by being everywhere whether you wanted them or not
And
People like Schnoodle who literally everybody was happy to see whenever they showed up.
Honestly I think PugJesus is more on the latter end. He's not doing anything egregious, he's just posting a shitload of memes to entertain us and make the fediverse funnier. Even if not every meme lands, we can afford to recognize the contribution.
Other people should post more then, to be frank.
I've seen this specific account around enough I recognize the name, just from how much they post all across Lemmy. Same with a few other accounts. Hell, I'm trying to prop up a community or two myself with daily posts. We all gotta try to post, as much as we can without being spam, to keep the Lemmy network alive.
thank 🙏 It does mean a lot to know that some people appreciate the memes I'm sharing! I am gonna post less often, though, simply because I'm not here to agitate anyone.
I enjoy your posts. I also like your handle.
You may as well slow down, that stash isn't gonna last forever.
Well, I rather don't want it to. I was hoping by the time I run out the place would be popping enough that no more would be needed from me.
The solution, we all post memes non stop
Hey, I want to see the original PugJesus meme! Show me the PugJesus meme!
Who's hating on Pugjesus? If we all posted even half as much as PJ posted, we would never be starved for content. We could all use a Pugjesus in our communities.
Lord, we are so grateful for the memes that You have set before us. We know not everyone has the memes that we do and we thank You for everything You have given to us. May our Savior PugJesus continue to bless us with memes. We also want to take this time to pray for the poor and meme-less who lack these really dope memes. Please be with them and sustain them. In the name of PugJesus we pray, amen.
May many small respiratorially challenged dogs bless you, my child 🙌
I understand the sentiment. I remember Digg and early communities. The issue with small communities is 1 or 2 active posters can seem like they are the only posters. To me, that makes me nervous because I remember places that would prevent new or smaller members' threads from being seen. I don't think that's what's happening here but the pattern matching might be causing similar sentiments.
The solution: everyone post more memes.
It a free world at least
Nothing against pugjesus, but I prefer quality over quantity, and 97% of their memes are just awful.
