Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.

The heatwave last summer in Europe killed 61 000 people. The current summer is hotter than 2022. Right now, Rome is hotter than Dubai. We're on the highway to hell.

I was in Rome and other parts of Italy last year for that heat wave… it was rough. Many places didn’t or don’t have air conditioning, just fans. There also was a drought that didn’t help, rivers were extremely low. Not good.
