Really stupid comic.

Even a 1:1 rip-off is still preferable if it's FOSS.

Not to mention, we don't need to re-invent the wheel every time. A photo editor for example doesn't need to offer innovative new features to differentiate itself from Light Room, it needs to offer the tools generally used by photographers and not be Adobe.

In fact, the more like adobe tools it is, the more likely it is to be adopted by adobe users. One of the most often cited reasons for not switching to linux by individuals (ie not businesses) is "I need Photoshop/clip studio paint/premiere". Literally those exact tools but FOSS would bring more artists to linux.

moreso trying to underline the potential for stagnation the pinned tools may lead to; many of the would-be pioneers of genuine innovation seem to use extremely bloated and nonFOSS tools
