Hmmm... I found out as a young teen that I'm like wildly allergic to guinea pigs (or maybe their dander?). Much more than I am cats, or any other animal I'm aware of (though long haired cats will fuck me up too, but I love cats so I would deal with that if I needed to).
Anyway, I had a friend who had two hairless cats that looked very much like this little guy, and despite supposedly being hypoallergenic, they fucked my allergies up big time, one of them in particular.
Dunno if it's the oils on their skin or something? Lovely cats, but if I forgot to take a Zyrtec, they'd put me out of commission.
Point is, I wonder if I'd be allergic to a hairless guinea pig...
You can be allergic to cat hair, or to cat proteins (skinflakes/saliva). Some cats make less of that protein, and some have less hair for the saliva to get stuck in.
Or you can be allergic to both, in which case, too bad.
It's usually their saliva thay you are having a reaction to. Cats clean themselves by licking their fur, so their saliva is all over their fur. Guess how guinea pigs clean themselves?
I'm gonna take a wild guess and say... Farts?
They lick themselves all over, and when they get old their friends help them get the parts they can't reach
Willing to put up money for a test to find out?
Born too early for the targeted allergy vaccines.
Nah I'm good... I'll just continue to avoid guinea pigs
