for mistake, though, it would be by mistake
“On accident” is not right. “By mistake”, “by accident”, opposite of “on purpose”
"On accident" can't be right because it makes me want to chop off all your fingers so you can never type again
I felt the same before I moved to a foreign country and didn’t have the privilege anymore of speaking perfectly without any effort. Now I have become more tolerant and it makes me feel good.
I did exactly the same thing, and it's difficult. Particularly at an older age!
But it's not learners that make mistakes like saying "on accident", it's mostly native speakers. And then they pass on their mistakes to non native speakers
It's perfectly fine to call them out on it.

It should be "by accident", "on accident" is incorrect.
