It's literally the infancy of ai.

If you went back to 1990 and saw monochrome graphics and shitty refresh rates in 2d on a pc you'd think man these graphics suck...video games will never be any good!

1989/1990 is when 16-Bit platforms like SNES, Mega Drive, and Neo-Geo launched. These 4th gen consoles were very far from "monochrome graphics" and were thought of as "rad" at the time.

Uhhh... No. I play Open TTD and its one of my favorite games. If you think a game is measured by its graphics you kinda need to play real games.
