"All violence is caused by cis white men" politician said that quote and I've seen many people defend the statement. I don't think it's true and my knowledge of history makes me think it's not true but I'm not sure if I'm correct since colonialism did do a lot of damage.

It's nowhere close to true even with the most revisionist views of history - what's also funny is the definition of white also isn't some set in stone thing and has changed greatly over time.

Colonialism absolutely fucked things up in large parts of the world (all of it?) but it wasn't just done by anglo/white dominant countries though England and Spain together account for a loooot of it.
