Foraging. I've just started getting into it more. So far I have been loving pine needle tea - high in vitamin C which can replace the need for expensive fruit from the grocery store.
I made sumac "iced tea" which was excellent and also nutritious.
Looking forward to spring to forage dandelions for salad, since the store price is unrealistic for me. Apparently wild greens are more nutritious anyway.
Young dandelion greens are delicious. You can also roast the roots to make “coffee”, but I can’t really recommend it. It’s like coffee in that it’s dark and bitter, but it has zero caffeine (which is why I used to drink it) and… well, it tastes horrible. Young nettle leaves are also good as cooked greens or tea, wear gloves to pick and process them of course.
Dark and bitter sounds good to me! I'm interested in trying some "wild coffee" with caffeine too.
Dandelion flower makes for a good syrup, too
