Do you think spez or anyone else making these decisions have woken up at night to realize they messed up yet? I'm voting nah.
Spez is just trying to make Reddit as profitable as possible before jumping ship. He doesn’t care what happens to Reddit, just what it can get him.
He pissed off a block of his free workforce that then left or were kicked out, that's not great for the bottom line, yeah?
People with brains recognize this. So Spez does not.
He just needs the illusion that it’s profitable. He doesn’t care if user engagement is shitting on him, as long as users are still engaged. Once he’s lined his pockets, he’s gonna jump ship. But not before he’s able to milk every penny he thinks he can get.
Are the investors that stupid? I have a hard time believing that they just blindly go in thinking everything is great when it's obviously bots a lot of the time and fuzzy numbers being pushed towards their direction. They read the tech news before they buy a tech company, right?
Honestly I just assume these people are driven by their greed and only care about numbers
Morality is a lost concept these days, people just want power and money
I guess to be fair, I have lost just about all my faith in society/humanity so I just assume the worst these days.
If he's just looking to cash out and move on then what he's doing makes sense. Otherwise it's insanity. He'll be going down with the ship. As far as investors, I think it's mostly speculation.
I just really get this feeling that he is. Or maybe I’m just trying to apply logic to the situation, because you’re right it is insanity.
How did he mess up? He's cashing out and burning the place down behind him. This is all standard practice in vulture capitalism. It happens every day, but you don't see or care because most of the companies it happens to aren't centered around a social platform you spend all your free time on.
He's not cashing out with the best possible circumstances is how he messed up. That's like saying Elon bought Twitter at a highly inflated price and then crashing and burning all the advertising is doing a great job. Twitter is sinking into the abyss very slowly. It'll still be around in a year or so but right now Twitter is only worth 1/4 of what Elon paid. Spez already lost like 20% of Reddit's value after all of his sweet changes. These guys are idiots.
He's cashing out with more money than he'll be able to spend in his lifetime. Yeah, what a fucking rube.
Yeah, because money is all that matters, lol. Obviously it does to him because that's why he made all of these changes that are backfiring to making him less money. I bet he'll sleep fine knowing he ruined a website and a lot of goodwill from people volunteering to make communities, because he's that kind of stupid. Sounds like you would rather be rich than live a good life knowing you made the world better. Go get your flag and put it on top that mountain by yourself and everyone slowly walking away unless they want something from you, sounds greeeeaaaaaaat.
I'm not sure why you're asduming that because I can see what he cares about, it must be all I care about too.
He absolutely will sleep fine; he doesn't give a fuck about reddit or its communities. He never did. It was only ever about money. Yeah, it sucks what he's done, but pretending he's the loser in this situation when he's going to live out his days in luxury and comfort while we've lost our communities and will always be stuck in the grind supporting the lifestyles of him and his ilk is embarrassingly delusional.
I've known quite a few extremely wealthy people and as a whole they were not happy. I would bet Spez isn't living a great life now and it will hit him some day. Tbh, I don't care all that much, I like it here.
They may not be happy, but neither are many of the rest of us. The difference is that they have the resources to be comfortable and healthy during their misery. 2/3 of us live paycheck-to-paycheck and can barely, or just flat out can't, afford basic things like healthcare or maintenance on the vehicles we're usually required to own to survive.
Being poor is not better than being rich, and only sheltered middle class morons seem to think it is.
Life can suck, but it can really suck when you have financial problems.
Personally I think human beings would be a lot happier if money did not exist. I don't appreciate money past the extent it provides for my needs. As long as I can pay my bills I'm good. I simply don't understand the obsession people have with money, but then it's also a means to power. So basically it comes down to an obsession with power and control. What human trait defines an asshole better than that.
Totally agree.
