How do you activate Arch Premium? I got that stupid "Activate" overlay on my desktop.

The people from Heroic are already working on this.

Source: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2024/10/ubuntu-summit-2024-highlights-linux-gaming-talks-on-umu-and-heroic-launcher/

The talk gives a brief overview on what they've been working on like UWP/WinRT in Wine, Comet for GOG multiplayer features and more. But Lidwin also does a quick little sneak peek intro on a new project called Maxima Launcher, an open source replacement for EA Desktop / Origin that will eventually get Heroic integration too.

What kind of use-cases was it, where you didn’t find suitable local models to work with ?

Any time you ask very domain specific questions; eg "i have collected some soil samples from the mesolithic age near the Amazon basin which have high sulfur and phosphorus content compared to my other samples. What factors could contribute to this distribution?", both of-the-shelf local models & OpenAI fail.

The main reason is because these models are not trained on highly-specialized domains of text. Sometimes the models start hallucinating and which reduces our trust upon them.

Nobody is saying Valve is perfect. But the other companies just sucks much harder

Should have been called AITL (AITL Is a Translation Layer)

I think mkdocs is easier than hugo but less flexible in terms of capability. However it serves all my needs (list of webpages accessible from a central frontpage)

My company is realizing that hosting a model which will be private, cost-effective, and performing better than traditional algorithms is like finding a unicorn. Few months back, the top execs were jumping around GenAI like a bunch of kids. Fortunately, the Sr. research head beat some sense into them.

Adobe should get comfortable with users not using AI

We already have tab for subscribed / local / all.

Can we add some custom tabs to that list?

I have quite a few communities and some communities are more active than others which causes them to fill my feed. The current solution is to visit the community individually but can we make a short collection of communities which I can see all at once?

Example: The tabs (which can be created by the user) might be like technology, shitposting/memes, hobbies. The user will fill each tab with their own list of communities.

I'm not sure if it's the right place to ask this since it might be better to ask lemmy-UI for this feature but just putting this feature up here.

I just tried to upgrade Ubuntu and I suddenly see that new packages want to be installed; snapd and firefox. I don't need Firefox because I'm already using Firefox-ESR as a deb and I certainly don't need snaps.

Why is Ubuntu doing this? I get it you like snaps but I don't, so don't try to force install it. I had to use apt-mark hold to block the install of snapd and firefox. This is also not an isolated incident. I just checked Reddit and someone made a thread 8 hours back regarding the same issue.

This thing is giving me Microsoft vibes.

I made a post on asklemmy@lemmy.ml but it was not getting any responses so decided to ask here where people have experience in hosting lemmy instances.

I am not sure how cross-posting works here so I'm just going to paste the link to the original post https://lemm.ee/post/24869.

The main query I have is how is data partitioned over instances when I'm participating in communities in other instances.

You can post your answers here or there.

Hello fellow lemmings!

I'm a new lemming like many of you and I want to know a bit more about the inner workings of lemmy. So I just have a few questions

  1. If I'm part of instance A and there is a community C in instance B and I want to put a comment with a picture attached.
    1. In which instance is the data (comment+picture) stored?
  2. Is it possible to migrate from instance A to instance B seamlessly while taking all my data?
    1. If yes, will my username change from user@A to user@B?
    2. If the username changes, how do my previous followers keep track?
  3. When I'm just viewing (not commenting) community C@B from instance A, is some amount of data (images/post text) is transferred from B to A?
    1. If yes, is it kept for sometime or permanently?
  4. If I've subscribed to 100s of communities in different instances, how much will it impact my instance?
  5. Consider the link to this post lemmy.ml/post/1223070 and lemm.ee/post/24869 which basically references this post from different instances.
    1. Is there any difference in the way people see it?
    2. Will there be a sync issue when people try commenting on it?

These are just some questions that came to my mind. I'll post more in the comments as they come.
