Lol good metaphor. Right now we’re just at the point where the ride is fullly pointed upwards and rising to the peak dropoff point that will drop in January.

Not really. I mean, sure it’s the same concept, but email has been getting semi-centralized between the big players now, with gmail and maybe icloud getting the largest chunk of users. That would be similar to letting users choose between .world or .ml to sign up with, which is against the fediverse principle to spread the load as wide as possible.

When you present the lowest common denominator internet user with hundreds of instances to choose from and requiring them to think further than clicking through a sign-up page, you lose user interest pretty quickly.

Use induction or electric stoves. They don’t have a visible fire so that might help with your worry of starting one. But remember it can still happen of course, it just helps that you’re not seeing an actual fire while cooking. Like others said, you can also use other electric cookware like an airfryer, griddle, etc. Just make it a habit to be always present and not forget that you’re cooking something and you’ll avoid most burning/fire accidents.

Yeah, that’s why the Andor series was so great. They didn’t make a Star Wars show, they made a great heist show that just so happened to transpire in the Star Wars universe.

Definitely Texas BBQ. Houston is also regarded as having the best and most diverse food in the state. So try whatever you can that won't interfere with your treatment. As others said, NASA Space Center.

The US is the most litigious country in the world. They’re likely making sure all bases are covered just in case.

Nice! I saw the news about this earlier today and it’s cool to see it in action.

You practice minimalism because of the aesthetic and lack of clutter.

I practice minimalism because I don’t have money.

We are not the same.

The movie Interstellar supposedly had physicist consultants to try to get the depictions of space stuff as accurate as possible, in particular the blackhole. Not sure if the wormhole is the same, since we have no actual scientific data or evidence of one. So that’s probably the best guess they could make.

Might be a good use-case to have your home irrigation system be triggered by plant clicks instead of a schedule.

With how fast battery tech is evolving, how does one decide when the it’s the “right” time to buy to get the most range for your money? By the 2026 there will likely be an even better capacity battery, and so on…

Narwhal released v2 of their app today to the general public. As a loyal narwhal user before I moved to lemmy, I still had the app on my phone so I checked it out.

The app now shows your api usage so you know how much you’ll need to pay based on your average browsing habits. It’s making users uncomfortable because they can’t browse carefree knowing the counter goes up every time they do something in the app.

Such a shame because the new app version is beautiful, but look at what reddit is forcing app devs to do just so their app can live on.

We have a 12 and 14 ProMax and I noticed the new color scheme change on the 12. For example, the yellow to red-orange change on the calculator buttons, and the blue to dark-blue change on the wifi/data/BT/airplane buttons in control center. However, it didn't change on the 14. Anyone know if there's a setting somewhere to change this?

I was an avid single player gamer a long long time ago (15+ years) and the recent Quake II remaster sparked the nostalgia in me and now I want start playing all my favorite classic games (StarCraft, Diablo II, Quake 2 and 3, Battlefield 2, etc.) again.

The problem is I mostly have old hardware. My old HP laptop running Arch just died recently and my old MSI laptop running Mint that I use as a media player connected to my tv is too slow to run games properly.

So I was thinking of buying one of those mini PCs or compact desktops that run around $200-$250 to dual boot Windows (don’t wanna waste the free license if it comes with it) and Linux and use it as a gaming machine. I’m so behind with pc specs nowadays so I wanted to ask the community for recommendations. I’ll be playing mostly the classic games above and their remastered versions so I don’t really need a top of the line machine, just something decent that isn’t too far behind and can still run some current games if I ever find anything new interesting.

Any suggestions please? Thanks!
