Wow, that's incredible! I didn't know China used double the energy of the US. Energy usage is a good proxy for how advanced a civilization and double the 2nd largest is very impressive!

That's awesome! Space energy delivery is something out of science fiction. I'll look into it!

China seems to be able to easily start and complete megaprojects without much bureaucracy. It is a trait I wish the west would inspire to. Of course there are also traits that are not as appealing and should be avoided.

Regarding fossil fuels, I am beyond surprised how both superpowers are not placing significant funding into fusion. ITER in theory (and almost certainty in practice) has shown that you can generate a 1< Q factor for energy projection.

Imagine a Manhattan project for fusion instead of nuclear weapons. A project to this scale would very likely be able to fully transistion the world into clean, reliable, and cheap energy that doesn't require batteries, sunlight, or natural terrain to exploit.

The amount of lives you would save from free energy is also incredible! Place a few reactors in Africa and you have a way to desalinate ocean water, as well as provide free energy for food generation.

Do you have any resources or suggestions for Linux hardening?

The tiktok algorithm has been the best algorithm of any platform in my opinion. While the content will vary depending on the person, and perhaps others may judge another's feed as poor taste, tiktok does do a good job at providing users content in what they want.

With that said, use YouTube revanced manager to patch tiktok for ad free experience!

A LAN party on something like Minecraft would be great if you could somehow avoid trolls.

The freedom of expression is relieving and oddly something I forgot existed. There has been so much censorship and polticial correctness that it has ruined what made the old internet fun.

I would love to see Youtube be next in federation migration!

There is a significant difference between constructive criticism and infighting. Infighting is often fueled by emotion and can be seen as toxic, harsh, and genuinely unappealing.

Constructive criticism on the other hand is a great way to provide another view point to someone who may not agree with you. It is up to them to decide on how they want to use this new perspective.

It has been quite emotional to see this community grow! I was a lurker here when Lemmy only had hundreds of users and to see such a vibrant and diverse set of instances form has been wonderful! I hope to see this platform returning some of the nostalgia from the Golden Age of the Internet. An internet for fun!

Here is my take on karma. Karma gives users an incentive to post content based more around grabbing attention than quality.

I think it is for the best that karma doesn't exist here as it allows users to post what they feel without an alterior motive such as gaining internet points.

Subnautica has been amazing! It is one of the best open world games ever made and I highly recommend it!

I don't post on reddit since I know how futile it is to create any change given its size, but given Lemmy is small I might as well give it a try here.

I've been seeing a lot of posts here lately similar the doom and gloom clickbait headlines you would see from news companies. In fact, most top posts seem to have that "Reddit feel" to them.

Please know that posts don't have to all be negative, there exists positive news in the world and especially positive news when it comes to technology.

For example, did you know a release of a new fully open source LLM called OpenLLaMA just got announced by the Researchers at Berkeley AI Research?
