They use coreboot (open-source BIOS alternative - kinda) for their Tesla's which the source-code is available on Tesla's GitHub. That's all I know though. Personally not a big Elon Musk fan.
I mean it mostly uses Bing in the background rather than Google. Searx is kich the same in the sense it taps into other search engines. Except with Searx you get more control.

Personally I've been using Slide for years and I've recently started using libreddit on PC.
EDIT: Ultimately I just want to stop having a reddit account but it's really useful for technical issues.

You use it a dumb TV and then you connect a smart device you have more control over via HDMI (or another connector)
