Inflation has been falling for a couple years and is fairly low right now, though not as low as it was back when interest rates were zero.

The dollar has been fairly strong in recent years.

Inflation in 2022 was likely due to price gouging with companies like Exxon Mobil reporting record or near-record profits at that time.

https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/XOM/exxon/gross-profit

By late 2022, companies had jacked up prices high enough that the demand curve had likely reached the “crossover” point. Since then prices and inflation have been falling back to normal.

I have used the Excel/Word/Keynote formats with iWork and it’s okay. MS Office is the de-facto standard format and recognized by Google Docs, OpenOffice, and of course MS Office.

I don’t think it’s a truly open format like ODF, but you can be sure it’ll be recognized everywhere for a long time.

Plenty of adblocker extensions on iOS Safari.

For YouTube, I’d recommend Vinegar, although the more general adblockers will also work.

As announced earlier key board members are also resigning.

Have they rotated the deck chairs on the Titanic, or is this a meaningful change?

It’s about guys who deliver money to banks.

Contrarian opinion:

Discovering that Mars once had life would be bad for NASA. It would mean that human exploration of Mars might not be allowed as it could contaminate the evidence.

And it would be terrible for humanity, according to Kurzgesagt, because it would indicate that we may soon go extinct.

I use the stock keyboard. It’s terrible, but so are the alternatives, plus there are privacy concerns.

One nice thing I will say is that the word suggestions are actually good in the latest iOS since they are now based on an LLM.

Bit other than thst typing is so inaccurate taht O have to go back and corewxt nearly every word.

Swipe typing showing hello very much either. (Swipe typing doesn’t help very much either.)

About 3 or 4 years ago PayPal added the option to buy cryptocurrency, which I thought I’d try. (Dumb idea 🙄)

Part of the sign up process was glitched. I retried and clicked submit one too many times, I guess. Now I’ve been unable to use PayPal for years. They blocked me because THEIR SITE was broken, but the web page essentially accuses me of being a criminal and asks for my bank records. No way in hell.

This was just for me to pay others. I can only imagine how awful PayPal is if you are a vendor.

Fuck PayPal.

Comedian Lewis Black has a routine about “a Starbucks across the street from a Starbucks”. Apple Stores aren’t nearly as common.

Unless you’re in Glendale, California -- where Apple Glendale Galleria is across the street from Apple The Americana at Brand.

Are there any other Apple Stores this close together?

The stores are less than 150 meters apart, but unfortunately they aren’t within sight of each other. As you exit Apple The Americana at Brand, you won’t see the other Apple Store — only a notably uncrowded Samsung Experience Store.

New EV owner here. We charge at home so I don’t need to use them, but stores nearby have chargers. I tried them to see how they work. They are often broken.

One store has a Volta charger (free!). It worked great the first time; the next time I went it was broken.

Walmart has an Electrify America fast charger. The first time I went, 1 of 3 was not working. The next time I went, 1 of 3 was not working, but it was a different one.

Was I unlucky, or are these charging networks unreliable? Has it been getting better or worse over time?

We need ‘em!

On the “all” timeline I see posts by bots that I want to filter out. I have tried blocking the “lemmit bot” in Memmy, but I still see its posts.

Some posts that are just a link to an article have no link. For example, this post has a link to an article which doesn‘t show up in Memmy.
