Think I just watched something about avif... it's optimized for modern monitors with much better colors. and it's an open standard. so I would def use it over jpeg if I can get away with it

don't think you can really convert them properly without losing data

[–] holdengreen@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

[–] holdengreen@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

well climate change is still something I have time to plan for, and have a reasonable chance of survival if I do a decent job at that.

It's faster now, great.

The politics are actually mostly pretty good in this.

I thought this was a great introduction to lisp as someone who wants to be more familiar. I'm growing more interested in the channel.

If you are unfamiliar with the AV1 codec well it is the successor to VP9 which was in the same class of h.264 which was and still is prolific on the internet. AV1 is a big jump over h264...

MediaTek was early to implemented AV1 in their Dimensity smartphone chips since 2019. And if you aren't aware those are in a lot of Chinese smartphones.

There is now a decent chance you own and use a device that supports AV1 decoding. This means that AV1 I think is going to take over the internet in the next few years.

Although AV1 is free and open source, it is a result of corporate socialism and Google's CIA influence. It probably wouldn't even be possible in the capitalist framework otherwise because big surprise intellectual property isn't actually good for innovation or much else.

My first computer as I remember. Great engineering, much innovation especially on the custom LCD which I'm surprised isn't in all the cheaper smart phones. Microsoft tried to ruin the software lol.

Don Hopkins announced that he is creating a free and open source port of the game SimCity to the OLPC

that's what I remember the most

wow. I've been designing toys with these things and it's always scared me.

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a pig plane.

Look at what is built on the back of the poors. This makes me sick. It's a wasps nest.

So as I've said I am making myself a workstation. I ordered this mobo from aliexpress. It's a dual socket LGA 2011-3 thing named ZX-DU99D4X8_V1.1 . It supports the Intel E5 2600 v4 line of processors. It also happens to have a misprinted QR code sticker on it.

So far I have 2x 2650 v4 processors and 6x 16GB 2400Hz + 2x 8GB 2133Hz = 112GB of DDR4 for it.

This guy wrote some stuff about the mobo and he says the bottom x16 PCIe is actually x8.

Rn I only have a R5 340X "Rebranded R7 250" for it but I want to get on of these cheap $80 NV K80's eventually.

I only have 3 or so Dell 2007FPb monitors sitting around. But I hear that LCD and SSD prices should fall some before the end of this year, also GPUs may crash a bit.

Thinking I want to get one of these cheap used/open box LG 32GN63T-B gaming monitors that are going on ebay for well below $200.

All my watercooling parts are stuck in customs but for now the CPUs prob don't need it.

I don't want to get too into the weeds with this rn. I'm posting now that I've prepared all the measurements and a good photo of my mobo.

And the measurements I made:

Calibration:

So I need a working case. https://lemmygrad.ml/post/366303
