In the military you would just grab a manila folder and walk very fast. Most people would assume you were running an errand between offices and would get tf out of your way

Others have recommend really good ones like Tchaikovsky's Children of Time. In that same vein I can recommend A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge and the followup books. Just like Tchaikovsky's works they are part human POV and part alien POV where the aliens are very animal-like. It's not really the same as what you may be looking for though, as the species are all very intelligent, just different and with characteristics that are very reminiscent of earth animals such as dogs and spiders.

I didnt know what this was and just looked up some gameplay...is this for real? It looks absolutely terrible and like it was made 30 years ago. Is that like part of the theme somehow?

For real, this was 85% of the reason I caved lmao. The other 15% was that I was presented with the opportunity to purchase one at a time when that was rare so I said fuck it

Just read this for the first time a few weeks ago, so good.

YES! Maybe I should read it again for nostalgia's sake. I can't imagine it's very long since little me got through it. I think it was my first modern sci-fi book which was a very different vibe from things like John Carter of Mars

Man I forgot about Colfer. He wrote some one-off sci-fi book I read as a sheltered kid and it blew my mind. Cant remember what it was called but it had something to do with energy-based creatures that you could only see if you had nearly died. It was kind of a cyberpunk-lite novel for kids

Indeed it is. He is definitely an atypical writer

I just finished "The Shadow of the Torturer" by Gene Wolfe, first book in the "The Book of the New Sun" series. Very interesting book, excited for the rest of the series. Not the easiest read though
