This has been my side project for the past couple of days now. I made this because I needed it. Thought someone else might also want this so I made a full cli for it.

Hope you enjoy!

Do you think that the person must be

  1. born in a bilingual country / completely indifferent to native, educated speakers of the language
  2. able to write, speak and hear with little to no grammatical errors in almost any situations / able to take college level classes without language barrier.
  3. able to conduct any casual conversations with little to no grammatical errors

or worse?

English is not my first language but I'm quite confident myself. And I'm always torn between saying that I'm bilingual or just fluent.

A lot of the times, I think in English and sometimes even dream in English but I also have never spent a single day in an English speaking country in my life. It's weird to know that I'm not a bilingual per se but to think like one. Just wanted to know if anyone had similar experience.

One of the reasons is because I don't play games that often but... It's actually nice to play.

And bonus points for having all those FOSS mascots as a playable character. It's just hilarious.

IMO, you're probably fine with only using VPN. That is with all the settings and additional measures done and with credible VPN provider, which, in my case, Mullvad.

If you're planning another 9.11 or for some sick reason decided to share no no porns, VPN is definitely not enough and I'm pretty sure you already know that.

A lot of reputable VPN providers are constantly poked bt the authorities. They give nothing because they have nothing.

You're fine if you're just trying to bypass stupid regional censorship or download bunch of movies. That is, again, with proper security measures of course.

I've seen some people saying that you should use Tor for anonymity when someone's just asking about how to use VPN better or whatnot. Tor is better in terms of anonymity, sure. But for most of the cases, VPN is fine.

And I cannot stress this enough: you will NEVER be perfectly anonymous online. Period.

While not work related, I am absolutely livid with how SkySilk mishandled things for a VPS that I was paying for to host a wordpress backed website for a non-profit cosplay group that I am the manager for.

I got a notification earlier today that the google business listing for the group had been suspended and needed to be fixed and resubmitted to become active again.

After a bit of thinking about what could have happened, I discovered that the website was down. I logged into the SkySilk VPS portal to discover that the VPS was gone.

I submitted a ticket to SkySilk asking for help with this thinking that someone had hacked my account and deleted the VPS.

I get a response from SkySilk Support to this effect

Hello,

We've been doing maintenance and upgrades across our datacenters these past few weeks, unfortunately as a result we've had to begin the process of decommissioning older hardware and inactive freebie machines from our beta days as they are no longer compatible with our current iteration of the hosting infrastructure. At some point during the process on June 9th your machine was put into a soft-deleted state to allow active users to reach out to us prior to the machine being permanently removed. As there was no response to the action, the system performed the next stages of the decommission process which results in a destroyed state days later (June 12th).

While this may have been a free machine dating back from our beta days, we understand that this can be an unfortunate situation. Though recovery of the machine is not possible, your account has been credited $20 to use as you see fit.

Thankfully if you have maintained some level of backup for your machine on a local basis, you'll be able to upload that data to a new machine. While our platform does offer a back-up system we always strongly recommend following the "3-2-1" backup method to prevent any data loss.

Regards,

Stefano M.

This was not a "Free" VPS, while it was not an expensive one, as I only paid two dollars and fifty cents a month for it, it was not a free VPS.

I was out of the country on a 7-day cruise last week, and also because of the nature of the website I ran on this VPS I didn't check it every day to see if it was up, and while I did have internet access on the cruise, I was on vacation so I wouldn't have been checking stuff like that anyways, the only things I was doing was monitoring my work email in case there were any issues and my co-workers needed questions answered, and my personal usage for facebook, etc.

I could care less about that twenty-dollar credit, if they can't bring my VPS back online I am done with doing business with this company.

I wouldn't trust them to host anything for our company, and wanted to make sure others have visibility on how they treat their customers.

I do have a backup I can restore, but it won't be with these guys when it gets set back up

Not in any specific order. They are all equally fantastic.

It was one of the easiest to setup and it works flawlessly. I'm a bit paranoid about losing my data even with the backups.. Any recommendation?

I now feel very much comfortable in Lemmy than Reddit. I don't have to nor want to constantly hear about reddit. They're jackasses. But I don't feel the need to shit on reddit anymore. Let them die or be "this too shall pass" story or whatever. Idc. We're going nowhere if all we're talking about is Reddit.

I care about Lemmy.world and lemmy as a whole. I hope mod will either make this community free from reddit debacle or make a new community dedicated for announcements or such. People here can also spend their time writing about literally anything else than Reddit.

Until then, I'm leaving here. (Check out !jazz@lemmy.world s'il vous plait!)

Edit) Sorry. I didn't know how fed up people are listening to what I'm saying which apparantly is not only said a lot but also quite ironic. I'm not deleting this because I just want to say that I understand now 😅

There's a DRM video player(won't tell you the name as it's only a domestic software in non-English speaking country) that prevents recording by literally any means I can think of.

These are the methods that does not work

  • Using screen recorder: DRM software force kills all the softwares related to screen recording/sharing. It goes completely black if you try to do with some niche software.

  • Using VM: DRM software detects VM and force stops

  • Using Video capture card: it is somehow blocked. I do not know any specific detail

  • Using yt-dlp: It's using it's own proprietary software and I failed to get the url of the video.

Any possible solutions I might be missing out on?
