Wrong, that's a lie. They're not desperate. Companies these days don't want to pay.

None, they don't run libre software.

Don't ad. Apply direct. Separate email, number + name, always.

I'll pay Tubular (NewPipe) / PeerTube first.

But are they libre software?

Arch Linux Installation Guide = How to take back control over our own computing, plus some extra tech skills, useful irrespective of your occupation or hobbies. I would suggest doing it a second device, like when already buying a new computer, so your stuff stays safe on the old one.

Finally, someone who knows the difference between software and a service.

Not just locally on the device! There must be an error when calling or texting the number.

Data must work for internet for Signal, VoIP, etc.

This is for a UK PAYG SIM.

There should be no way for anyone to demand my number, or for me to leak it, or doing so should be irrelevant as it does not work.

Need at least the camera, if not that plus a microphone and speakers, not the lock or bell.

Libre Software (Obviously) + End-to-End Encryption

Small and easy to hide, so the camera isn't stolen, attacked or bypassed.

UK Banks: HSBC, Lloyds, Starling, Monzo, etc.

Update I have come to a decision. Thank you to all who contributed suggestions. Please feel free to keep the discussion going to help others.

Jitsi Meet and Matrix are missing system-wide/background push-to-talk (PTT) (to replace Discord).

  • Tell Jitsi -> github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet-electron/issues/210

  • Tell Matrix -> github.com/element-hq/element-web/issues/15284

  • Tell Element Call -> call.element.io (Settings > Feedback)

  • Tell SimpleX -> github.com/simplex-chat/simplex-chat/issues/2398

Alternatives (obviously must be cross-platform end-to-end encrypted libre software)?

Lemmy is software anyone can develop and everyone controls, libre software, which makes it very hard for Lemmy to abuse us. To keep it this way, share the ideas of software freedom.

  1. Always check its software license: always check it is libre software (video guide here).
  2. Also avoid service as a software substitute.
  3. Libre software plus decentralisation [federation or peer-to-peer] is ideal.
  4. Remember, 'open source' misses the point.

If we focus on warning against individual apps, we must repeat our time and effort everytime new malware appears. So, target a common property: its software license.

With proprietary software, we are not the user, we are the used.

Discord blocks 3rd-party apps. Discord is not libre software.
