That’s why almost everyone who uses Comcast uses Comcast.

Same reason I have Comcast internet.

You lost me. I was with you right up until that point, but then you went off the deep end.

comparing his own plight to that of the anti-Vietnam War protesters who were arrested for allegedly starting riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

I know it’s not the point of the article, but the protestors weren’t the ones that started that riot. The Chicago PD were. The protestors were playing music and chanting.

Hey, thank you! I appreciate it. I like to put down these thoughts, I have been thinking about it since tinkering around with my own little corner of the operation.

Personally, I like the idea of a $1/month fee paid to the server operators. Something Awful does something like that, and it works like gangbusters apparently. Right now, the entitlement of free access without even a laughably nominal fee creates a not-ideal set of expectations of both sides, both users and admins.

It's probably a total nonstarter of an idea, because the user culture on Lemmy right now is so entitled that it would be seen as some kind of grave insult to the users, in their position as free demanders of whatever service level they've come to expect and they will yell if they don't get it. Which is precisely the problem. Community and volunteerism are wonderful things. Even as it is, it's much better than the commercial model. But it can definitely be improved from here.

Like I said, I thought of a few different ways of trying to redress the balance, but nothing that was convincing. I think, in complete seriousness, that just starting fresh in some other corner of the fediverse might be a better way. I have a whole host of other types of thoughts about that and what this all means, from the point of view of my involvement in the whole operation, which will have to wait for me to have time for a whole separate essay for anyone who wants to hear it.

And, the Nebraska Democratic Party committed an absolutely unforced own goal by mounting a hopeless write-in challenge to his candidacy instead of just getting behind him, because he was hurting their fee-fees by not being sufficiently obsequious. Great job, guys. A Republican senate sounds great.

Personally I hope this guy wins and is in a position to ally with some of the handful of progressive Democrats and organize a program to systematically boot the other kind into the Potomac as soon as humanly possible.

Participants will have to sign a liability waiver, Mattson said. Asked about whether it was a safety risk to have officers armed during the event, Mattson said that officers’ guns are “going to be in their holsters like they normally would, just like if we were chasing a suspect.”

If the officers are not uniformed or armed, it defeats the goal of helping community members overcome fear of interacting with officers as they are, Mattson said.

Every so often, I like to imagine someone explaining these things at the debriefing table where they're all going over how it all went wrong, one step at a time, as someone is asking probing questions about the thought process behind it.

It’s not a small amount, either. It’s about $2 million.

I also hope these two ladies buy themselves some good security.

It's not just the apartment and the car. The entire list is pure entertainment:

  • The apartment
  • The right to sue Trump on Giuliani's behalf for some money Trump still owes him
  • All the cash in two Citibank accounts
  • The Benz
  • Some furniture
  • His TV
  • Sports memorabilia, including stuff signed by Reggie Jackson and Joe DiMaggio
  • Costume jewelry
  • 26 different watches
  • A diamond ring

They're just holding him upside down and shaking him like a 1930s comic strip about bullies. It's also possible that they will get a Palm Beach condo that Giuliani owns, four different Yankees World Series rings, and potentially anything else that the court may arbitrarily decide to take away. They haven't decided yet.

I feel like putting trust in this Trump guy might not be a lasting strategy for your own success, guys.

I don't call everyone a troll. I didn't call you a troll, or Sundial, or jerkface, or PugJesus.

I disagreed with mindbleach, but he didn't call me a troll, nor me him. I think it's potentially possible that we're discussing actual trolls, in this conversation.

Are you sure you didn't make up an imaginary scenario in your head where "we" call everyone who states their opinion a troll?
