Lightning existed before USB-C, and was reversible while everyone else was using Micro-B. Also, storage on the iPhone 5 was so slow that it wouldn't make much of a difference, I doubt it would even saturate USB 2.0 bandwidth. While lightning wasn't very forward thinking of Apple when it comes to bandwidth, keep in mind that at the time, you couldn't even access the file system on iOS, and the files were ridiculously small compared to today.

Two years after Apple introduced the Lightning port, the USB-C spec was published, and there are some Apple engineers who contributed to the specifications of USB-C. Apple quickly adopted it for the Mac, but it was clear that they were hesitant to switch the iPhone in 2015... they could have easily done it, but chose not to.

I don't know why they chose to keep the lightning port for so long (ego making them not want to admit that they designed a port that wasn't very future proof?), but for the first two years, it was more convenient than the only competition at the time which was Micro-B.

The most expensive iPhone is $1600, and the Galaxy Fold 5 with the same storage option is $2160, disliking Apple has nothing to do with poverty.

Even if I were a billionaire, I wouldn't want an iPhone. You can't sideload apps, that's an automatic disqualifier in my mind for a smartphone.

Edit: Also, you've edited your comment from "Wanna know how I know you’re poor" to "Wanna know how I know you’re cool" without indicating it, which is a dick move.

When I was a little kid and went to a store with my father, the registry had a ton of small coins and I assumed the guy behind the counter was super rich, because my dad had 5 or 6 coins in his wallet, and the guy had hundreds of coins. When my dad asked for change, and got a bunch of coins, I assumed the man was very generous and donated his money to my dad.

I've been obsessed with Jujutsu Kaisen for a while, but the current part of the manga has me at the edge of my seat. Pairing that with season 2 of the anime airing, and I'm so happy.

Maybe we could get them converted to residential units to get cheaper housing.

Since I am having no problems with lemmy.one, I'll stay here, but thanks for the recommendation, maybe it will help someone else who is frustrated right now with their current instance performance.

Same. I use both lemmy.ml and lemmy.one. mostly use lemmy.one now since lemmy.ml is not loading properly for me, probably because of the massive influx of users into the same instance, overwhelming the server.

You are correct, red meats are the worst for the environment, which is why I only eat them on special occasions, just like flying, it isn't sustainable to overconsume, and it should be minimised to whichever level you are willing to do.

For ground beef, the best solution is to make sure you have enough fat to get good browning. People usually say 80/20 ratio, but I like to have 25% fat on my burger patties. As an experiment, try making a patty with lean meat and you will see how much the moisture will evaporate rapidly and take the heat away from the meat, giving you a sad grey meat. With enough fat, it will keep conducting heat into the crust without boiling all the water inside; as a bonus, you get juicy burgers this way.

Reeducation camps are not voluntary, these groups are voluntary ones; there is nothing wrong with helping people to leave their cults when they show interest in leaving.

I find that for many niche topics, the communities are pretty empty and inactive, which was the reason I loved Reddit in the first place. Hopefully with more users it will become mainstream.

Well said. I'm going to use that line in the future.
