This is one of those posts where I don't mean for it to be bait whatsoever, I am being totally genuine here, but with the reaction I've gotten for stating this opinion throughout my life, I figured I'd start with thatI do not like Pearl Jam at all, save for a song or two I think are good, I like the song Black quite a bit and I heard another song I can't remember the name of once that I thought was alright. But every single time I try to listen to this band's discography, I hate it. At one point, I wanted to like Pearl Jam and listened to Ten a ton to try to acclimate myself to the album like I've done with many others I had an initial sour taste to. I thought it was annoying. If every band from the 90s is Red Hot Chili Peppers but more or less annoying on a spectrum, Pearl Jam is on the lower end of that spectrum. However, I still find Pearl Jam to be annoying and uninspiring.

Am I just too young to understand them? There are a lot of vocalists I don't understand that I like because of how they use their voice as an instrument, but I find how Vedder using his vocals absolutely indecipherable. Someone will hear some lyrics from him and be like "damn I felt that" when I didn't understand a goddamn word Vedder had said. I've listened to a lot of grunge, really love The Smashing Pumpkins and Dinosaur Jr. the most because I'm also a lover of dream pop and shoegaze. I should be okay with Veddar having indecipherable vocals, it just seems like they way he does it is stupid.

If you guys have any suggestions for Pearl Jam songs you think I'll like, feel free to comment them, I'm not going to just be a shithead. I'd also appreciate hearing what you guys specifically appreciate about the group or the song you comment. I feel like I'm missing so much context with how many people I like also being Pearl Jam fans, but maybe I'm not missing anything and other people also agree with how annoying they are?

So I got homework from my therapist for the week, she really wants me to connect with other queer people on a wider level, like going to pride or something like that. She also told me I should ask here, she thinks Hexbear is really cool. As someone who was raised as a christian in a heavy red state, I've never been socialized with other queer people. I have no idea where to go to meet more queer people. I feel like this is my entry stage into organizing. What do y'all do?

As I've said in many posts, I got put on antidepressants recently and it's been pretty life-changing. It has pretty much entirely stopped my extreme lifelong habit of nail-biting overnight. I was such an extreme nail biter that when I ran out of nail I'd move to the cuticles, I was almost always bleeding from my fingers, and one of them was always liable to be infected. This is a good thing, however my nails are now longer than they've ever been, and because I've been nail-biting for so long I never had to worry about it. I have no fucking clue how to get shit out from under my nails without hurting myself, and as a heavy smoker that's absolutely horrible and disgusting. How do you guys clean your nails?

The cost of almost everything has doubled in the course of a year. I know chain restaurants are a weak metric for inflation, but when I met my partner, her and I could both get burritos at Chipotle for $13 total. Now, it costs $13 for one burrito. We're seeing the people who can afford it spend more and more because the prices have simply doubled, and everybody else just going without.

In 2008, people didn't have money because they lost their jobs. In 2023, people are working more than ever but still can't afford anything. I feel like most people would rather be poor with time than poor with no time.

That's what I'm more upset about. The logic behind these decisions that has been expressed simply isn't sound parenting. This kid just got his favorite toy taken away, and while it isn't meant as punishment, it will feel like punishment. The logic expressed in the post is regurgitated out of a video essay, and makes it sound like Dad doesn't even know why he's taking it away. My situation was a little bit different, adopting someone else's kid who had an entirely different life before me, but I feel like the shock therapy of just banning it with video essay logic is weak even if they are fully your children. As someone who was on it as a kid, I don't like Roblox overall. However, I've found just teaching him why I don't like Roblox has been more effective than just pulling it away and giving a poorly thought out explanation why. Now he's come to the conclusion of the emptiness of Roblox himself, I didn't have to force it.

Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. Giving them the information on their level and giving them choice usually pays off with kids. They can usually understand way more than we expect them to as long as we can break it down for them. It's one thing to be the weird kid who can't play Roblox because your parents don't want you to, it's another thing to be the kid who just doesn't want to play Roblox. I'm saying that this is a situation where you can have your cake and eat it too, and that's by educating your kids to make good decisions and give them ample opportunity to practice that skill.

You know what's more stimulating than any individual game you'll have him play? Making his own choices on what to play. And like I said, brightline, what is and isn't stimulating to you? Are shitty flash games banned for being too simple minded?

Parenting is your kid learning from you. They're not learning why you're banning Roblox, and if you explain it to them they don't really understand. My kid is starting to not fuck with Roblox anymore because of how pay to win some of the games are. He had to do a lot of chores for those Robux and instantly wished he had the money for better things a couple days later when he wanted a plushie at the store. When I told him he could have gotten that plushie if he hadn't gotten Robux, he stopped wanting Robux. He learned the value of money, and learned to prioritize the things he wants, and coincidentally doesn't want to play Roblox like he used to. I didn't have to be the bad guy because most kids have things they want more than Robux. All I had to do was make him choose.

Seriously, download and play Roblox with him. There are a million different games on there, you can even filter games on the site. Some of the games are actually really fucking good. Meet him where he's at, set rules so he has to play Roblox with you. You can actually monitor what he's playing and doing, while getting in some bonding time. Because your Dad playing tag or whatever dumbass things we were into as kids was way usually way cooler than playing Dad's game. You're going to be

Yeah, gas station by my house does 50 cent shots of good vodka. In America, most good liquor stores are also gas stations.

...an enthusiast device that isn't Snapdragon?

What a bad idea

Like gas station shots.

Adobe CC. They've added new features recently to justify a subscription, but it's still not that good of a pitch. Some editors will have offline PCs so that their software doesn't get fucked up by anything (SUPER common in music), so having a subscription model works against professional users of their software.

As long as you're watching adults perform, there should be no issue with just bringing a few shooters and adding them to your drinks. Theater people love watching and performing under the influence of alcohol, it's the oldest theater tradition.

Literally just buy a few double shooters to make mixed drinks and make sure you have a ride home, you're overcomplicating this any other way. Trying to make alcohol consumption discrete when you know everybody probably smells it and probably doesn't care about drinking makes you look worse than just drinking.

I live life to the fullest by driving my family around in the backseat of my Prius, and not being skinned alive by road rash. You live life to the fullest by praying there isn't sand on the next exit ramp.

We are not the same.

Yeah, OP of this thread (me) actually has schizophrenia. Being a right wing shithead isn't the same as being schizophrenic. Schizo is just the new way people have of calling people "autistic" like people did a decade ago.

I got out of video game piracy for a while, but I'm coming back. One thing I have been absolutely SHOCKED by is how finding PC game torrents is actually kind of difficult from my normal sources. Now it'd be one thing if I just wasn't seeing games, but for some reason Playstation and Switch have far more uploaders and seeders on the sites. This is something that would have been unthinkable when I was into piracy. But from a quick glance, it looks like the Switch has a bigger piracy scene than PCs do right now. This was so extreme I couldn't find a torrent for Minecraft past 1.12. I found a download, but not a torrent. Or I couldn't find any of the old versions of Five Nights At Freddy's on PC, but could find them on other platforms. Things I'd consider true PC staples of the past decade with absolutely nothing popping up in my normal sources.

I'm not asking where to find PC torrents (although I certainly wouldn't mind). Are consoles actually becoming more popular to pirate for?

I am a stickler for launchers. I love the general stock Android feel, but also love those old school iPhone jailbreak levels of customization where it makes no fucking sense but you have the option to do it anyways just cause. The best launcher I ever found for my tastes was Evie. Extremely simple with no ads, bordering on the stock Android experience, with great quality of life features such as assignable gestures, adjustable icon size, icon packs, and notification count on apps you can turn on if you'd like. Unfortunately, the launcher stopped receiving updates in 2011. Some functionality is starting to be lost, like news and weather integration on the left of the home screen. I'm rocking a OnePlus 6t if that matters to anybody. What launchers are good now?

I've been using my OnePlus 6t since launch and love it, but I am very interested in Linux phones now. I've been an early adopter before, but it's finally getting where I think I need it to be to try. I pretty much only do basic phone functions and emulation. Would a Pinephone Pro have the power to run something like a Wii or 3ds game? What about an older ported game like STALKER? Curious just how much it could do
