I'm doing okay.. kind of in limbo right now at my parents house, but it will get better, it always does.

How are the rest of you guys? Also a reminder if you're ever not doing well, my dms are open. I can be childish and hyper but I can also listen and give advice when needed.

Hi! I am a member of a race education group in my school (11 to 18). We were discussing instances of racism and came to the conclusion that the school - teachers, especially - were not giving proper or effective repercussions for racist incidents. Racism in the school is quite normalised, especially against Black and Asian students, including:

CW: list of racist incidents

  • Calling black people "monkeys", unnecessarily calling them "fast" and that they "should be at the back of the bus"
  • Playing stereotypical Indian music and linking brown people to "curry" and tech-support scammers
  • The Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees chant and mocking the Chinese language

Most teachers report the incident, triggering an investigation into what happened; the student(s) are usually suspended - possibly being temporarily transferred to another school - the offending student(s) are talked to by senior staff members and attend anti-racism sessions. This approach feels appropriate, although I want to hear your thoughts on it as racism is still a significant issue in the school.

In addition, quite a few teachers instead push to "settle the matter" in-class (say sorry, shake hands) or give lesser punishments that are intended for things like swearing or talking over the teacher. These are not appropriate punishments and shouldn't be tolerated. Bigotry is never equivalent to just rude behaviour or minor arguments (that includes bullying).

The school administration has been made aware of our thoughts and fortunately they are very open to the idea of writing a clearer and more effective policy on racism in the school.

Do teachers need to be trained better on their tolerance of racism? Is the policy not corrective enough? How would you write a racism policy for a school for 11 to 18 year olds?

Thanks again!

Post hog was wild and felt crazy at the time, but I think I’m still partial to the old episode megas. Chapo was never deep, but people would delve into the content and find a way to extract actual insight. It was cool sharing a piece of media and crowdsourcing an analysis of it.

I have to declare a major when I apply so I'm a little stressed about it.

I'd probably go literature or philosophy for the librarian track. And psychology for the art therapist track. I think I'd way more enjoy doing lit/phil for undergrad, but I think where I end up after matters more. I doubt many art therapy programs would want a lit/phil major.

I like the idea of being an art therapist as someone with a great deal of gender and gay. And it seems like a very vibes based profession which works for me. But if I was a librarian I'd probably read a lot more and that would make me happy. Plus maybe I could organize queer reading groups or something.

I'm curious if any of you have experience with either of those fields. Or just anything to add/offer.

I will be frank my understanding of theory is not great as I am still less than a year into learning marxism-leninism. Regardless, I see a lot of discontent among liberals which has unfortunately been managed very well by Biden stepping down and Harris now being on the table. However, seeing as nothing will fundamentally change and the source of their discontent will still affect them, eventually they will want superficial change again. Perhaps next time on a larger scale? Could there be a few real changes of the guard in our future or has the state apparatus been so perfected that this is no longer an option? Is fascism really the only way for the USian dominos to fall?

If so can someone explain why to me? I am currently reading state & revolution so I feel like I should know this and it is possible I answered myself but I dont have people to talk to about this irl so I am looking for people to bounce my thoughts on.

How do you do it?

I stopped participating in a group chat with some long-time friends about a year ago, mostly due in part to the exhausting conversations over politics. Ironically, after Trump was shot, the group decided to silo the conversations into two groups, one for non-politics, and one for politics, and pinged me. We're that kind of group where we go long periods of time not seeing each other in person due to life and kids, but it was nice to have them reach out.

But oh, that politics channel has not changed. Meanwhile, my worldview has shifted dramatically to the left of theirs (and beyond, really). The spectrum is:

  • Center Leaning Republican (a Rogan, Pool, Peterson enjoyer),
  • A Center leaning Dem
  • A Vote Blue Democrat (they are also the only queer person in our group)
  • A 3rd Party guy (basically a libertarian but refuses to adopt a label, and doesn't vote, but also a Peterson enjoyer, rabid anticommunist, they always know a guy, or have a family member, you know what I mean).
  • All white, all male

Something interesting happened when I returned, though. The topic that started this isn't relevant, but it prompted the Center Dem friend to ask me where I get my views from. I sat on that question for an evening and then just wrote out a summary of the Marxist-Leninists view on capitalism and imperialism, without ever using "capitalism" or "imperialism", without referencing Marx or Lenin.

It was long, but, his response was, basically, "Ok, that makes a lot of sense, actually." I then told him that Marx and Lenin would be happy to know you agree because that's their analysis in my own words, as I understand it.

Usually after bringing up someone like Marx, I'll get dunked on with a barrage of anticommunist brainrot, but that didn't happen this time.

So it got me thinking about the title of this post. How do you talk to your lib friends about their distorted world view?

Title. Cheers. Their channel appears to be gone or I can't find it.

EDIT: If it helps I think this is the dead link to the edit I'm looking for: https://youtu.be/6EzcBNeoWh0

The last couple months, I've seen an increase in people with various neonazi, white supremacist, and fash tattoos - just picked up some info for identifying them over the years hanging out in lefty spaces.

My wife wanted to learn some of the more common ones so she can identify fash when I'm not around, and I want to refresh my memory, so we can be more cautious around potentially-dangerous fash.

Anyone know of good resources for identifying them?

One near me is having an issue with rats. I think really they just need better trash pickup mainly, and better shelters in general, but they've specifically asked for help getting rat poison. Would bait boxes with poison even make a dent in an outdoor environment like that? I can't singlehandedly improve the cleanliness of the camp or get everyone rat-proof shelter obviously, but I feel like just going straight for the poison could have adverse consequences and not be effective, potentially.

...would it also make sense for hotter communities to have "cooling plants"? Idk how that would work but it was just a weird thought I had.

I thought I could deal without a notification LED on my new Oneplus phone, but it's honestly driving me a little nuts. I'm looking for a watch that looks like a nice watch (preferably analog), but also connects to my phone and has a notification LED. I remember seeing this sort of thing being more common 5 to 10-ish years ago but I'm not having much luck tracking one down now.

I literally do not need any other features. No fitness tracking, no GPS, no music, no speakerphone, no nothing. If it has them, fine, but I won't need or use them. All I want is a little LED that lets me know in a timely manner that a notification popped up on my phone, on a watch that looks like a classy watch, and with a companion app that isn't a subpar piece of shit.

I'm okay with having to charge it maybe every few weeks, but I will be damned if I get some stupid overpriced gadget that needs a daily charge and makes me look like a techbro.

Pitbulls are demon spawns apparently.

Chihuahuas are yappy rats

Small dogs are uppity

The only acceptable dog in the minds of these Lifetime brained weirdos is a golden retriever. These people should not be allowed near any animal

Euros are pretty weird with their dog breed hatred as well

Louisiana and Quebec are both settler-colonial territories at the mouths of major navigable rivers, and both have a history of Francophony. But why was French broadly displaced by English in Louisiana, while this has not happened in Quebec? What are the different historical factors that led to these different outcomes? In particular, what were the roles of the rivers, if any? What is the present language situation in these regions, and what would you predict the future language situations of these regions to look like?

Not only for beating the buffoon she couldn't, proving she lost because she's just that unlikable, but also "stealing her thunder" by being the first lady president?

Outwards they'll be all smiles ofc, but you know it would eat them inside.
