I think that's the idea. Heroes "do it for free". You don't see superman getting extra money from saving people. He holds a job. Same with Spiderman. Even Link has to pay rupees for his gear to save the world.

So businesses have figured out if they give you the praise of being a hero, they don't have to pay you. Just like a superhero would never ask for money, you shouldn't either, hero.

What's nice about apple is that they use high enough quality components that it lasts awhile. I'm the kind of guy to drive a Honda until it's just about dead before buying another. I bought my MacBook pro in I think 2011 (maybe 2013, I can't remember). It still runs fine. The battery is not worth much, maybe 30 minutes. But I have no real reason to replace it. Everything is fine. Compared to when I had cheap laptops before, I think I went through 3 in a span of 6 years.

I'm guessing the key here is getting a laptop with high quality components that isn't apple, but I don't know which ones are actually good, and which are just artificially expensive laptops. Reviews don't help too much either because so many are fake, and also that I don't think many people keep their laptops 10+ years to compare longevity. I will probably go buy another apple when mine finally dies.

My watch pointed out my HRV suffers if I eat right before bed. It shows how "restful" my sleep is and if I eat in the last two hours before bed, the sleep barely gets into "rest" levels. Like equivalent to sitting down in a chair instead of sleeping for the first couple hours.

I know it sucks but maybe consider a larger lunch and just a light protein shake or something before bed if you really need calories then. I'm still figuring all this out too, but that really makes a big difference for me

I feel like when I do a good workout I need about an hour MORE sleep to recover. If you are getting less, I feel like that will cause a significant struggle.

Try the Wendler 5/3/1 weightlifting stuff. Someone on reddit made it into a spreadsheet somewhere.

Basically, don't try so hard lifting weights. You go in the first day and put an estimate in for your 1 rep max, then that day it gives you a workout and the last set you do as many as you can until failure, then you record the number.

From there, the spreadsheet calculates all the rest of your workouts with a gentle progression. His philosophy is basically, leave one rep in you (besides that testing day) for the heavy sets. Then with the BBB variation you do a ton of reps of a really light weight to build a strong foundation. He suggests a "training max" of 85-90%. Meaning there will never be a time the spreadsheet asks you to lift your entire max.

Since I've used that I haven't had any injuries at all, and I don't get super sore (just lightly sore, which I kind of like). Progression is slower, but I think that has to happen because muscles seem to develop faster than tendons adapt to the extra strain, which leads to injuries.

My wife and I were fine with a small wedding, but her parents wanted to invite all their friends to a lavish event. So they booked a very expensive place with the food and told us that was their contribution. We just had to pay for everything else. The photographer, the DJ, the cake, miscellaneous expenses. It all added up. I think we ended up paying around the same as they did, which was approximately double what we had budgeted for our small wedding we wanted. So four times more overall. But we got nice wedding photos and they got their extravagant party with their friends.

Tldr; boomers gonna boom

I'm not against gun ownership. I'm against zero gun ownership regulation. Requiring background checks seems like a no brainer but we cannot even get to that part. The next I would suggest is a weekend long course on the proper use, safety, cleaning, and storage of your weapon before you are allowed to buy one. Finally, I think we should have that class reupped every 2 years to keep your license to own the firearm. It's a dangerous thing to have around and most good gun owners would support some of this, even if it is a hassle. It could be made fun too though. Free ammo for some range practice or something. Maybe a few for the class covers that, I don't know. Consider it a meetup with other people with similar interests.

Floridian here. Wtf we finally do something right and vote to stay on DST year round and Congress won't let it happen? It's been YEARS that it's been on the table with Congress. I will give them an excuse for not getting any work done on Hang Mike Pence day, but really this is getting a bit annoying.

Isn't that standard time?

I've heard that argument before, but really if it's an issue, just change the school hours. I had to get up and go to school in the dark as a child and really, I was so sleepy the first few classes they were wasted on me anyways.

Like the anti vaccine movement, many have forgotten the horrors of the past and feel like they can just discard the things that got us to where we are.

I think the idea is, most people could build a doghouse with no training, but you need planning and education to plan/build a skyscraper. If you want to write your own app at home, maybe no software planning is really required. Keep nailing in workarounds. But if you want to build a huge system, you need to do a bit more than workarounds. You need a good plan from the start to make it all efficient and in a manner others can contribute to the code base.

That said, I feel like just having workarounds is really common even in large industry settings. Maybe I'm wrong though. I'm more of a home doghouse builder type myself.

I just got a CO2 meter and checked the levels in my house and went down a rabbit hole trying to address the issue. Apparently it would take 249 areca palms to offset the carbon RESPIRATION of one adult.

So okay 249 trees just for me to breathe, not to mention the rest of the bad things we all do.

So how can this math ever balance? 249 trees just to break even seems like an impossible number. Then all the flights I have been on, miles driven, etc.

I feel like that's... Way too many trees. Is it hopeless or am I missing something?
